I’ve found a fashion blog written by Ellen Ricks on the Barbiecore trend. Ellen has pulled together 14 Barbie-inspired outfits from Cowgirl Barbie, Lounging Barbie, and ’00s Barbie to Workout Barbie. All are ultra-feminine and cutesy.

Instead of your guests coming in pink outfits, what about asking them to dress as a career Barbie doll instead?

As well as greeting your guests with a VIP pink carpet, I would suggest having an entryway decoration to set the tone of your party.

The perfect entrance for a Barbie-inspired party is a pastel-coloured bicycle with a basket filled with flowers.

You can add pink balloons and a welcome sign if you feel it is needed. A large chalkboard or even a hanging sign will work.

Barbie Tablescapes

After being wowed by your entrance décor, guests can enjoy your attention to detail with a well-thought-out tablescape.

You need to colour-coordinate your table to your theme. It will be pretty easy for a Barbie party. Choose different shades of pink in the table runner, napkins, centrepieces, plates, glasses, party favours, and other accessories.

The most well-put-together tablescapes are the ones that set a scene using colour and pattern. They use layers to add texture, add height to create interest and artistically arrange accessories to make it visually appealing.

I am not keen on using branded party merchandise. I think it lacks creativity and cheapens the overall look. I much prefer DIY projects and creative table centrepieces.

Don’t get me wrong… one or two items with a Barbie logo can help pull a theme together, but less is more!

Jowy Productions designed a picture-perfect tablescape for a Barbie-inspired luncheon in Malibu. They created an elegant setting using various shades of Barbie’s favourite colour – pink! They accessorised with pretty florals and added height with taper candles.

You can’t get any more feminine than pink-on-pink-on-pink, whatever the hue.

I especially like the tongue-in-cheek “Carbies don’t make Barbies” sandwich platter label.

Here is another example of a stunning Barbie-inspired tablescape. Parisa Kaprealian has done a wonderful job mixing different shades of baby pink, hot pink and magenta to create an adorable garden tea party.

One of Barbie’s most famous accessories is her convertible. You can create a unique table centrepiece using an old Barbie car, a masonry jar, and fresh flowers to make a playful vase.

It’s such a fun decorative prop. Look at this floral creation by Alicia’s Flowerwall Events on TikTok. She created her Barbie car centrepiece using artificial flowers and a foam ball.

Other Barbie-themed accessories work just as well, such as a handbag or a stiletto shoe!

You may want to focus on the ultimate surfer doll, Malibu Barbie. If you decide on a Malibu Barbie party theme, then grab your shades and let’s hit the beach! Your decorations need to be fun, vibrant and surfy.

This theme fits perfectly for a child’s birthday party as it’s so colourful and exciting. It also works well for a hen party; you can get your girl gang together and rent a holiday home with a pool for the weekend.

Little details like matching swimsuits, robes, sliders and weekend jute bags look great for the Gram and are practical for poolside fun.

Take a look at this hen party hosted on the beach! The girls were in Florida rather than Malibu, but that doesn’t matter as it’s the stunning décor I am inspired by 🙂 The Bikiniis and Belliniis bridal party truly captured the surfer scene of Malibu Barbie.

Before continuing, I think this is the perfect moment to appreciate Barbie’s iconic Malibu dreamhouse. It was previously listed on the property rental website Airbnb. Just imagine staying here for a hen party weekend!

If you want to go that one step further, why not create a 3D piece of art? I love this idea Colin Cowie created for Mattel to celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary. The wall behind the cocktail bar featured 750 Barbie dolls – a replica of the original 1959 Barbie doll wearing a black and white bathing suit. They framed the dolls with a border of pink softly lit jewels.

You can make a DIY version by raiding the toy box or checking out charity shops for old Barbie dolls. Get your sewing kit ready and make little bathing suits from chevron fabric. Fix the dolls to a backboard and use a bright pink frame to complete your project.
