Given all the success the movie has achieved, it’s sure to inspire party themes – from sleepovers, birthdays, hen parties and weddings.

Stay ahead of the party game; by designing your Barbiecore theme with these plastic-fantastic ideas!

Come On Barbie, Let’s Go Party!!

Here are eight easy steps on ‘how to throw a Barbie-themed party’ that Ken, Midge, Teresa, Nikki, and Barbie’s sisters Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea would show up for.

  • Step 1: Choose a Barbiecore Party Outfit
  • Step 2: Decorate Barbie Style!!
  • Step 3: Pick the Best Barbie Backdrop
  • Step 4: Select Barbie Games and Activities
  • Step 5: Create a Barbie Playlist
  • Step 6: Plan a Pink Drinks Menu
  • Step 7: Make Pink Party Food
  • Step 8: Decide on Barbie Party Favours

So you have invited your guests and told them where and when the party is. You could have fun and let your party-goers know there is a dress code.

Ask your friends to come dressed as a real life-size Barbie!

Pay attention to tiny details by including a “Mattel” pin badge with your invites – ask your guests to wear it as part of their costume.

The great thing about dressing up as Barbie is that you don’t need an official outfit to make it work. The only real requirement is to include a whole lot of pink!

Check out this slideshow of celebrities who have slayed the Barbiecore trend. I’m sure it will give you some inspo in creating your impressive look. I have included the likes of Nicki Minaj, the Kardashians, Beyoncé and Hailey Bieber.

I’ve found a fashion blog written by Ellen Ricks on the Barbiecore trend. Ellen has pulled together 14 Barbie-inspired outfits from Cowgirl Barbie, Lounging Barbie, and ’00s Barbie to Workout Barbie. All are ultra-feminine and cutesy.

If you are celebrating a hen party (bachelorette party for those in the US) then you can dress the bride-to-be as “Wifey Barbie”.

This hen party from The Livstyle are living it up in Barbieland! I especially like the white swimsuit and Barbie pink maxi kimono worn by the bride.

This is the part I love; it’s all in the details. Your friends will appreciate the extra attention you put into the decorations.

This section covers the following:

  • Photo Props
  • Barbie Tablescapes
  • Malibu Barbie Décor
  • Barbie Captions

Roll out the pink carpet and let your guests arrive in style! Make your guests feel special by creating a paparazzi-worthy walkway.

Photo Props

As well as greeting your guests with a VIP pink carpet, I would suggest having an entryway decoration to set the tone of your party.

The perfect entrance for a Barbie-inspired party is a pastel-coloured bicycle with a basket filled with flowers.

You can add pink balloons and a welcome sign if you feel it is needed. A large chalkboard or even a hanging sign will work.

You will need to decide what to scribble on the sign. Here are some text ideas to welcome your guests:

  • Come On Barbie, Let’s Go Party!!
  • Welcome To Barbie’s Dream House
  • I’m A Barbie Girl, In A Barbie World
  • Life Is A Party, Dress Like It
  • Embrace Your Inner Barbie
  • Paint The Town Pink
  • On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink!

Depending on your budget, you may be able to hire a retro pink scooter. If it’s your wedding, how about a hot pink supercar?

Other Barbie photo prop ideas are a floral telephone booth, floral archway or balloon garland.

Make a statement by combining the two to create a balloon arch with fresh foliage intertwined.

Barbie Tablescapes

After being wowed by your entrance décor, guests can enjoy your attention to detail with a well-thought-out tablescape.

You need to colour-coordinate your table to your theme. It will be pretty easy for a Barbie party. Choose different shades of pink in the table runner, napkins, centrepieces, plates, glasses, party favours, and other accessories.

The most well-put-together tablescapes are the ones that set a scene using colour and pattern. They use layers to add texture, add height to create interest and artistically arrange accessories to make it visually appealing.

I am not keen on using branded party merchandise. I think it lacks creativity and cheapens the overall look. I much prefer DIY projects and creative table centrepieces.

Jowy Productions designed a picture-perfect tablescape for a Barbie-inspired luncheon in Malibu. They created an elegant setting using various shades of Barbie’s favourite colour – pink! They accessorised with pretty florals and added height with taper candles.

You can’t get any more feminine than pink-on-pink-on-pink, whatever the hue.

One of Barbie’s most famous accessories is her convertible. You can create a unique table centrepiece using an old Barbie car, a masonry jar, and fresh flowers to make a playful vase.

It’s such a fun decorative prop. Look at this floral creation by Alicia’s Flowerwall Events on TikTok. She created her Barbie car centrepiece using artificial flowers and a foam ball.

Other Barbie-themed accessories work just as well, such as a handbag or a stiletto shoe!

Malibu Barbie Décor

You may want to focus on the ultimate surfer doll, Malibu Barbie. If you decide on a Malibu Barbie party theme, then grab your shades and let’s hit the beach! Your decorations need to be fun, vibrant and surfy.

Here are a few prop suggestions for a Malibu beach party:

Every day is a good day in Malibu, have a look at these ideas to bring summer vibes to your party.

Include little details by setting up a tiered trolley next to the pool, and add pink and white striped towels, pink heart sunglasses, and pink flip-flops.

Parties on Purpose created one of my favourite Malibu Barbie theme setups. The vibrant colours brought a whole load of California fun!

This theme fits perfectly for a child’s birthday party as it’s so colourful and exciting. It also works well for a hen party; you can get your girl gang together and rent a holiday home with a pool for the weekend.

Before continuing, I think this is the perfect moment to appreciate Barbie’s iconic Malibu dreamhouse. It was previously listed on the property rental website Airbnb. Just imagine staying here for a hen party weekend!

The dreamhouse features an infinity pool, walk-in closet, hobby room, meditation terrace, office and sports court. Plenty of décor ideas to take from this to inspire your next party.

Barbie Captions

Whatever way you decide to decorate your party, frame some Barbie quotes. This inexpensive detail will be worth it.

Once you’ve printed your favourite Barbie quotes off, you can frame them and place them on your dessert table, on the activity stations, displayed as a welcome sign, or even use them as photo prop selfie sticks.

If you want to go that one step further, why not create a 3D piece of art? I love this idea Colin Cowie created for Mattel to celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary. The wall behind the cocktail bar featured 750 Barbie dolls – a replica of the original 1959 Barbie doll wearing a black and white bathing suit. They framed the dolls with a border of pink softly lit jewels.

You can make a DIY version by raiding the toy box or checking out charity shops for old Barbie dolls. Get your sewing kit ready and make little bathing suits from chevron fabric. Fix the dolls to a backboard and use a bright pink frame to complete your project.

Continuing with Barbie party decorations – let’s look at the wow factor! The focal point of your party. The area where you want to draw the attention of your guests.

This section covers the following:

  • Life-Size Barbie Doll Box
  • Barbie Pink Sweet Table
  • Barbie Dress-Up Station

Life-Size Barbie Doll Box

Barbies pink doll box should be the first thing your guests see as they enter your party. The iconic Mattel-style Barbie box is instantly recognisable and makes the perfect backdrop for a photo booth.

These days a photo booth is a must-have. A party isn’t a party without one and can be a great source of entertainment.

Strike a pose in style. Your guests will love the novelty of stepping into a toy box.

Barbie Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Create your own life-size Barbie box. You can make different variations of the Barbie box to fit your theme, such as a beach party or a glamorous red carpet event.

You can paint the inside of the box in pastel shades, use patterned prints or step into the 80s for a disco vibe by using sequins.

Adding a neon sign provides a bold, bright pop of colour and will give your photo booth a modern, trendy look.

I like the idea of a Barbie vanity designed as a sweet table. After all, Barbie is well known for never leaving home without being dolled up.

Just take a look at M&J Kreation’s pretty-in-pink display. They’ve gone with pastel floral vibes.

Get your creative juices flowing and play around with labels for your dessert table. You can use sweets and name them after beauty products. These cotton balls (strawberry marshmallows), powder puffs (powdered doughnuts), and bath pearls (gum balls) are perfect examples.

I love this wig display. You can’t get any more fun than switching up your hair look!

Why not consider creating a backstage area instead of Barbie’s dressing room? This long table with light-up mirrors accessorised with pink feather boas looks stunning for your little models to get doll-icious!

If your venue has enough space, you can set up a pink catwalk runway for your party. It’ll serve as both Barbie décor and as a fashion show activity.

Games are always popular, but you should keep them simple and fun. These doll-themed activities are great for icebreakers to help your guests get to know one another and make friends.
