It can be challenging to decide how to dress for Walt Disney World in December! This is a popular time of year to visit Walt Disney World but it is one of the best times to visit Florida for most mild weather. The heat will be far more manageable in December along with far fewer chances of rain giving guests more opportunities for a cute holiday outfit!
What to Pack for Disney World in December
The first rule of thumb for a Walt Disney World vacation in December is to pack clothes that you can layer. Layers are crucial so you can handle any weather forecast on your trip. Walt Disney World at Christmas time is one of my favorite times of the year so I tend to bring Disney vacation clothes like bright holiday sweaters and Christmas Minnie Mouse ears.

The best way to make sure you’re prepared for the weather in Orlando in December is to show up with both summer clothes and winter trip clothes such as:
- Cold weather gear– consider packing hats, long sleeve shirts, pants, tennis shoes, and coats in case of cold weather during your trip. The mornings and evenings in Disney World will be a bit cooler and the Florida humidity can actually make it feel cold at night and when it’s raining.
- Hot weather gear- don’t forget, you’re going to Florida and that means you might still have hot weather that might give you the chance to visit your hotel pool. Don’t forget to pack a t-shirt, flip-flops, a swimsuit, and shorts too. The pools at Disney World are heated so many guests will swim on their trip.
- Rain gear- you should always be prepared for rainy weather at Disney World. While this is well past hurricane season, you’re still going to be in Florida during your trip which is known for its humidity. The one thing you need to bring is ponchos, even disposable ponchos, so you have them handy in your park bag just in case. The nice thing about rain ponchos is they will fit over your park bag and keep your necessities dry too.
Walt Disney World does sell a large variety of sweatshirts, rain ponchos, umbrellas, and more but if you’re traveling on a budget it’s better to come prepared with whatever you might need to wear on your December Disney trip. All of this should be considered in addition to our Walt Disney World packing list.

How Should I Dress for Disney World in December?
The most common question we get this time of year is: what to wear to Disney World in December? One of the reasons I love visiting Disney Parks in December is the chance to wear fun holiday clothing during my trip. I recommend you go all out and pack that ugly holiday sweater so you can join in on the Christmas spirit! You will see plenty of families decked out in their holiday sweaters and layers of holiday clothes. It makes for great pictures to have the entire family dressed up in their wacky holiday best for their Walt Disney World vacation.
Disney World sells a wonderful variety of holiday clothes you can wear to Disney like Christmas spirit jerseys, fun Santa hats, light-up necklaces, and holiday-themed short sleeve shirts. If you don’t like flip-flops, you can even find holiday crocks in the stores in Magic Kingdom!
You can still dress for holiday fun to wear to Disney and dress in layers for cold weather. I usually bring a pair of pants or leggings to put in my park bag to make sure I’m covered for the evening in case the Florida weather turns cold. I match that with a holiday short sleeve shirt and then a Disney Christmas-themed spirit jersey over that. The thing I love about the Disney spirit jerseys is how warm they are, it’s like wearing an oversized sweatshirt making it one of my ‘what to wear to Disney World’ favorite choices. I usually bring a Columbia fleece too which fits well over the spirit jersey for the change in weather that might happen at night. I also see plenty of guests pairing their pants with a t-shirt and flannel so there are lots of options for layering your outfit on your trip. I encourage you to have fun with what you wear to Disney World when you’re visiting in December! Christmas time at Disney World is one of the best times of the year to visit so make sure you enjoy it.

The average high for Orlando in December is 73 degrees with the average low being 50 degrees. Since the weather isn’t as hot, this is a great time of year to visit for those who don’t enjoy heat.
