Donna Stitz, age 80, of Carroll, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2024 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm. Music will be by Kathy Halbur and Kathleen Macke. Lectors will be Jack Stitz, Zach Stitz, Kaitlin Bryant, and Charlee Stitz. Gift Bearers and Honorary Casket bearers will be Donna’s grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Donna’s sons: Gary Stitz, Dave Stitz, Bob Stitz, Ron Stitz, Randy Stitz, Jim Stitz, and Brad Stitz. Burial will follow the funeral mass at St. Augustine Cemetery in Halbur.

Visitation will be held at the Sharp Funeral Home from 3-5pm on Sunday. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 5pm. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church on Monday morning where visitation will continue from 10 to 10:45am.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

Donna Stitz was born January 18, 1944, in Carroll, the daughter of Albert and Dora (Fehring) Baumhover. She attended Mt. Carmel School and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1962.

Donna married Mike Stitz on August 17, 1963, in Mt Carmel, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family farm south of Halbur then later moved to Carroll. Donna was a dedicated homemaker, worked at Renze Hybrid and Carrollton Inn, and together they raised eleven children. Donna and Mike celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past August.

Donna never sat still. From morning coffee with friends to endless kids and grandkids activities, she would have gone to every single event if she could. She loved music and karaoke, checking in with friends on Facebook, fixing puzzles, playing cards and going on car rides. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a shining example of FAITH. Donna was a member of St. Augustine Choir and Guild.

Left to celebrate her life include her husband of 60 years, Mike Stitz of Carroll; her four daughters, Janet (Rick) Muhlbauer of Halbur, IA; Jean (Jay) Birks of Adel, IA; Pam (Chris) Kitt of Grimes, IA; Kelley (Matt) Hugeback of Arcadia, IA; and sons Gary (Sarah Schechinger) Stitz of Urbandale, IA; Dave (Patty) Stitz of Johnston, IA; Bob (Karla) Stitz of Ankeny, IA; Ron (Rose) Stitz of Harlan, IA; Randy (Melissa) Stitz of Green Bay, WI; Jim (Jaime) Stitz of Carroll, IA; Brad (Kelly) Stitz of Halbur, IA; 37 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; siblings: Leon Baumhover, Norb Baumhover, Leonard (Janet) Baumhover, Gene (Janet) Baumhover, Vern (Jean) Baumhover, Mark (Vivian) Baumhover, Harry (LaVonne) Baumhover, Dean Baumhover, Marita Moir; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Anne Baumhover, and Marcia (Bill Noth) Baumhover, Jim Morrison, Mark (Kay) Stitz, and Mary (Gene) Ferneding; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-laws Joseph and Alice Stitz, siblings: Ann Baumhover (in infancy), Ray Baumhover, Merle Baumhover, Mary Baumhover, Jane Morrison, Loras (Diane) Baumhover; brother-in-law Everett Moir, sisters-in-law Janice Baumhover, and Linda Baumhover.
