We want you to be fully prepared when it comes to making your first tandem skydive at Skydive Danielson. Comfortability is one of the biggest factors that can affect your entire skydiving experience. Choosing what to wear for skydiving isn’t just a great opportunity for a fashion statement, it’s a great way to set yourself up for success on one of the most exciting days of your life!
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO SKYDIVE?
A good rule to follow when choosing what to wear skydiving is to focus on comfort, safety, and security head-to-toe. One of the most important items to make sure you have on for skydiving is a good pair of sneakers. Sneakers or flat-soled shoes are an absolute MUST when you skydive. Sneakers that lace up and are secured to your feet are important to protect your feet and your instructor. Besides, you wouldn’t want to lose a shoe in freefall!

The clothes to wear for skydiving should be comfortable, give you full range of motion, and be close fitting. The first thing you will want to consider when choosing your skydiving outfit is the weather. Keep in mind that it is 30 degrees cooler up at altitude (14,000 ft) – so you may want to add an extra layer to whatever seems comfortable on the ground. This is one of the reasons we recommend wearing tight-fitting clothing, you can add layers without adding bulk (and it’s a better alternative to having loose clothing smacking you and your instructor as you’re zipping through 120 mph winds).
Appropriate Clothing for Skydiving:
- Athletic wear
- Thin layers
- Form-fitting clothing
- Leggings or stretchy pants
Prohibited Clothing Items for Skydiving:
- Dresses
- Skirts
- Shirts with collars
- Low-cut tank tops
- Anything with a snag hazard (zippers, tassels, etc.)
SHOULD I WEAR SHORTS OR LEGGINGS FOR SKYDIVING?
Knee-length shorts are okay to wear for skydiving, especially on super hot days in the peak summer season. However, we will always recommend leggings or long, comfortable pants versus shorts. The long layers will help protect your skin from the tandem harness, the 120 mph winds in freefall, the sun rays, and the grass/dirt you’ll contact upon landing the parachute.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR A TANDEM SKYDIVE?
All of the items listed above are perfectly fine to wear for a tandem skydive. As a first-time skydiver, you are welcome to wear one of our custom Skydive Danielson jumpsuits on top of your regular clothes. Not only will it make you look like a pro, but it will also help protect your clothes from getting damaged with rips, tears, or grass stains from landing. We especially recommend wearing a jumpsuit if you are planning on getting video and photos with your skydive. The bright colors of the jumpsuit were designed specifically to help your pictures pop against the beautiful, blue sky!

Got that favorite necklace/watch/ring you wear every single day and can’t bear to live without? Yeah, just go ahead and take that off before you jump. Pretty much anything that you have of value should not come with you on your skydiving adventure. Why? Because if it has the potential to come off, then it probably will when you’re in freefall – and when it’s gone, it’s GONE! Not only would you be devastated, but it could also become a hazard to someone on the ground.
CAN I WEAR MY GLASSES OR CONTACTS WHEN SKYDIVING?
Yes! We recommend contacts over glasses, if you have that option – just so you don’t accidentally lose your prescription glasses. If you don’t have that option, we suggest bringing an extra pair of glasses just in case. We will provide special goggles that are designed to fit on top of your glasses, keeping them secure and snug to your face. We also have eyewear retainers available for purchase in the gear store if you desire an extra layer of security for your spectacular spectacles.
DON’T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR SMILE!
The most important thing to wear for skydiving is that unstoppable, ear-to-ear smile! With everything to prepare for on your special day, don’t forget to have fun! Let loose, crack a few jokes, and embrace this moment. A smile looks best for pictures/videos, keeps your cheeks from flapping in the wind, reminds you to stay relaxed, and lets us know that you are happy and having an amazing time – which is most important of all!
