When Can I Wash My Face After Microblading

Microblading is a relatively new permanent makeup procedure that allows people to enhance their eyebrows with any shape, design, and color of their choosing. For women and men with thin, sparse, or no eyebrows this makeup procedure is an easy, painless, and cost-effective way of getting the brows they have always wanted!

Your enhanced eyebrows will last for about a year, maybe even more depending on your skin type and how well you take care of them post-procedure.

This is what this article focuses on. If you have recently undergone a microblading procedure or are considering opting for one, read on to learn more about how you can take better care of your perfect-looking brows!

Microblading Basics

This permanent makeup procedure involves pigment being scratched into the skin using a hand tool that has a blade with many tiny needles. An artist makes fine short strokes into a person’s eyebrow skin in a manner that resembles natural eyebrow hair.

As this instrument only goes through the upper layer of skin it isn’t permanent and less painful than any other cosmetic procedure or traditional tattooing.

A topical anesthetic is often used during the procedure along with numbing cream to ensure there is little to no pain.

Why Is Microblading On The Rise?

As our lifestyles become more and more active, we working women have no time to do up our brows or go through our entire makeup routine.

Permanent cosmetic procedures negate the need to have to do anything at all as once the procedure is completed and the skin heals your brows will look perfect all the time. This saves time and more importantly you don’t need to thread, wax, or even use liners to make sure your brows look their finest.

Also, using this technique artists can come up with styles that you couldn’t even imagine having with your natural brows. Microblading doesn’t just enhance the appearance of your eyebrows but also helps accentuate other facial features.

People who have sparse, thin, or even no eyebrows at all will benefit immensely from a microblading treatment. The procedure also takes only 2-3 hours to complete and is done in a single session. Healing times are also shorter, generally around 10-14 days to a month.

It is no wonder then that microblading is becoming more and more popular. Those seeking darker fuller brows that still look natural and last long can’t go wrong with microblading.

How Long After Microblading Can You Wash Your Face?

Several factors can lead to altering the results of permanent makeup such as water, sun exposure, sweat, etc. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t wash your face or take a bath.

In most cases, it is safe to wash your face 24 hours after the procedure. However, you need to be very cautious and ensure that no water touches your newly done brows. The skin around your brows is vulnerable to not just water but soap, facewash, and shampoo.

How To Wash Your Face After Microblading?

To make sure you are washing your face in the right way, here are some useful tips to follow.

Wash Your Face – Excluding The Affected Area

You have to be careful not to get the treated area wet when washing your face. Also, clean your face gently and try not to splash any water.

As the pigment is deposited only in the upper layers of the skin, it is susceptible to being washed off, leading to early pigment loss and unsatisfactory results.

Use a Sponge or Cloth

You can use a sponge or cloth soaked in water to clean your face to avoid getting any water on your brows.

Use Eye Shields

You can use shower eye shields to keep your brows dry while washing your face or while showering.

Clean Excess Fluid Around the Brows

Gently dab the treated area using a clean cloth or cotton pads to absorb any excess lymph fluid and to help keep the area clean.

What If Your Eyebrows Get Wet After Microblading?

If your eyebrows get wet before they are fully healed it may lead to a slower recovery. One might even feel a burning sensation in that area. Moisture can also result in pigment loss and early fading of color which can lead to less than satisfactory results.

Microblading Aftercare

The aftercare post microblading is a bit intensive. You have to take extra care to keep your brows free from any fading of pigment.

The pigment after the procedure appears darker and the skin might be red and swollen due to the incision of needles. However, this doesn’t last very long.

2 hours after the procedure, run a cotton pad dipped in sterilized water over the area. In this way, you can get rid of excess fluid and ink while keeping the area sterile.

It takes 2 weeks approximately to get your skin healed and the pigment to settle. Below is the skincare routine that one should follow after microblading:

  • Avoid getting your brows wet for at least 7 days. This doesn’t mean you can’t wash your face or shower as long as you keep the brow area dry.
  • Avoid wearing makeup for at least a week
  • Don’t peel off the skin or pick at scabs or itch the affected area
  • Avoid swimming, saunas, and heavy workouts
  • Don’t apply any moisturizer or lotion except for the one your aesthetician has recommended to you.
