When Did Gabe Rygaard Die

One of the stars of the popular History channel show Ax Men was killed in a car accident on Friday.

Gabe Rygaard, 45, died near his home in Port Angeles, Washington when the white Ford Bronco he was driving rear ended another car and then spun out into oncoming traffic.

The Peninsula Daily News reports that he later died from his injuries after being taken to the nearby Olympic Medical Center.

Rygaard leaves behind his wife Katy and three children.

He starred on Ax Men, a reality series following several logging crews trying to re-grow damaged forests, for eight seasons.

The show is produced by the same company behind Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers.

According to the State Patrol, Rygaard was driving his bronco behind a black Chevy Tahoe which was slowing to a stop when Rygaard veered to the left, striking the side of the vehicle.

The Bronco then rotated and crashed into an oncoming Dodge Ram van in the other lane.

Ryagaard was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Six passengers in the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries from the crash.

Rygaard is now the third cast member from Ax Men to have died in the past four years.

Jimmy Smith died of cancer in 2012 and William Colantuono died one year later in a helicopter crash.

Rygarrd joined the show in its second season, when he took over his father’s logging business, Rygaard Logging.

He appeared on the program through its ninth and final season which aired earlier this year.

His wife Katy wrote on Facebook over the weekend: ‘Yesterday I had to say good bye to my best friend, husband & father to my children. This was the hardest thing that I have ever done.

‘Gabe was our rock. I am still having a hard time trying to get words to come out of my mouth, so I will type this. I am overwhelmed with the love that this community is pouring out to our family. People have asked what we need.

‘We would all appreciate a lot of prayer. That is what will get us through this. Thank you and love to you all. Katy.’

She later posted a photo of her husband on a work site standing over the clouds with the sun shining down on him.
