President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden arrived in Nevada late Friday for a vacation in the exclusive gated community of Glenbrook on Lake Tahoe’s east shore.
The Bidens are renting a home that belongs to Tom Steyer and Kat Taylor. Steyer is an investor, climate activist and Democratic donor who ran for president in 2020. They are renting the home for fair market value, the White House said.

The White House told the Reno Gazette Journal that the Bidens plan to stay through Saturday, Aug. 26.
The Bidens will halt their vacation for a day on Monday to visit Maui, where a wildfire ripped through the historic town of Lahaina and killed at least 114 people. They will meet with survivors, first responders, and local officials while surveying the damage.
Several members of Biden’s family, including daughter Ashley and some of his grandchildren, accompanied the president and first lady on Air Force One to Nevada. His son Hunter, and Hunter’s wife Melissa Cohen, as well as their young son Beau were already at the rented home.

The Bidens are scheduled to leave from Reno on Saturday, Aug. 26.
The White House has not released where the Bidens are staying but multiple outlets reported he was expected to be on the Nevada side of the lake.
Commander Blaine Beard of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Incline Village office told the RGJ that, after consulting with the Secret Service on Friday, reports that the president would be in Incline or staying at the Hyatt are false.
He said Biden would be on the south side of Tahoe. The motorcade is scheduled to go through Douglas County.
Beard said the sheriff’s office was on standby if plans changed and Biden visited the north side of Tahoe or was on the water and needed assistance from Washoe County.
He said multiple agencies were assisting with the presidential motorcade to and from Air Force One, which is landing at the National Guard property south of Reno Tahoe International Airport.

Sources say Biden’s visit not tied to National Guard convention in Reno
Biden’s trip coincides during the largest convention of the National Guard, held in Reno this weekend.
It is the 145th General Conference of the National Guard Association of the United States. Thousands of Army and Air National Guard officers from 50 states are in Reno.
Biden was not listed as a speaker or scheduled to appear, Marcus said.
About Air Force One
“Air Force One” is used to designate any Air Force aircraft carrying the president.
Air Force One now refers to two planes used by the president. Both are customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft, which carry the tail codes 28000 and 29000. The Air Force designation for the aircraft is VC-25A.
Capable of refueling midair, Air Force One has unlimited range.
The onboard electronics are hardened to protect against an electromagnetic pulse, and Air Force One is equipped with advanced secure communications equipment, allowing the aircraft to function as a mobile command center in the event of an attack on the United States.
The plane has 4,000 square feet of floor space on three levels, including an extensive suite for the president with a large office, lavatory and conference room. Air Force One includes a medical suite that can function as an operating room, and a doctor is permanently on board. The plane’s two food preparation galleys can feed 100 people at a time.
Air Force One also has quarters for those who accompany the president, including senior advisors, Secret Service officers, traveling press and other guests. Several cargo planes typically fly ahead of Air Force One to provide the president with vehicles and services needed in remote locations.
