DES MOINES — Casey’s General Store is looking for a new kind of executive to add to its C-suite: Chief pizza and beer officer.
Having just finished another round as the centerpiece of pizza posturing by Iowa presidential caucus candidates trying to appeal to local sensibilities, the convenience store chain is poised to appoint “it’s most delicious position ever. Casey’s, which claims to be the fifth-largest pizza chain in the U.S., said the position will “serve as the utmost authority on sampling, researching, and pairing Casey’s pizzas with the best beer combinations.”

“As the official pizza and beer headquarters, Casey’s offers the unique ability to provide guests with craveable, handmade pizza and a variety of beer options to pair with it,” said Tom Brennan, chief merchandising officer at Casey’s. “With over 200 beer options and plenty of fan-favorite Casey’s pizzas to choose from, the chief pizza and beer officer will have their hands — and beer cooler — full. Great pizza deserves great beer, and the chief pizza and beer officer will play a key part in making sure Casey’s guests know about both.”

Ideal candidates for the position will demonstrate a high level of motivation to “eat tasty pizza and responsibly drink ice-cold beer.” The chain synonymous with Iowa culture is teaming up with former Chicago Bear’s defensive lineman Anthony “Spice” Adams to promote the search for the right candidate.
“I thought that I had the best job in the world when I played in the NFL, but then Casey’s told me about its chief pizza and beer officer — and the opportunity for me to lead the search,” said Adams. “Tasting pizza and beer is fun — but it’s also serious work for this pizza and beer expert. After all, resting on the taste buds and shoulders of this new position is the pizza enjoyment of millions across Casey’s country.”

Job perks include pizza and beer from Casey’s stores, branded glassware and swag, travel cost reimbursement and a negotiable compensation package.
In October, the Ankeny-based company debuted a new slogan: “The official pizza and beer headquarters,” completing a renewed marketing push after adding thin-crust pizza to its menu in June.
Sales of Casey’s prepared food and dispensed beverage sales rose to $382 million at the end of 2023 — an 8.9 percent increase from the start of the same quarter in 2022, according to the Des Moines Register.
