When Does Hello Kitty Happy Meal Start

It’s official – McDonald’s Singapore will be launching their first character-themed collaboration of the year, starring none other than Sanrio’s ‘poster girl’, Hello Kitty. This kawaii collab is specially conceptualised in celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year season, with Hello Kitty food packaging and a series of collectible plushies.

As expected, this collab also welcomes the return of the crowd-favourite Prosperity Burger – comprising a single or double chicken or beef patty with black pepper sauce and onions – along with the similarly popular Twister Fries on January 25. Aside from these festive faves, diners can also try seasonal items like the Pineapple Pie, Ha! Chicken Drumlets, the Pink Guava McFizz drink, a Pineapple Coconut Frappé, and Kueh Bangkit Soft Serve.

Unfortunately, the pink-hued red bean mochi pie that launched in Hong Kong, will not be making its way to Singapore, nor will the adorable Hello Kitty mahjong set. On the bright side, there will still be co-branded Sanrio McDonald’s merchandise up for grabs, in the form of mini Hello Kitty plushies that can double up as bag charms thanks to their attached straps. There are eight designs in total, progressively released as pairs over the course of one and a half weeks starting from February 15, 11am.

Release dates and designs are as follows:

  • 50th Anniversary and McDonald’s Crew – from February 15
  • Matsuri and Marine – from February 19
  • Standard and Strawberry Bear – from February 22
  • Teddy Bear and Mermaid – from February 26

Unlike the ones released by McDonald’s Japan, these Hello Kitty plushies do not come free with Happy Meals, and diners will instead have to purchase them at $9.90 per pair with every McDonald’s Extra Value Meal, Feast, 2x Value Meal or Family Meal – though that probably wouldn’t deter diehard Sanrio fans from rushing to secure these collectibles.
