When Does Rolycoly Evolve

Rolycoly is a Rock-type Coal Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that evolves into Carkol and Coalossal once certain conditions have been met. Rolycoly and Carkol are decent in combat by offering notably high defensive stats and Abilities that enhance their capabilities against opponents using Fire-type Movesets. For instance, Steam Engine bolsters the Coal Pokémon’s Speed if they are struck with a Fire-type attack. Rolycoly’s final evolution, Coalossal, possesses similar Abilities, and its Defense, HP, and Special Defense IVs are exceptionally superior, making it one of the best Rock-type pocket monsters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Before Trainers can evolve Rolycoly in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, they must first know where the Rock-type Coal Pokémon can be found in Paldea. According to the pocket monster’s in-game Habitat Description, Rolycoly lives within the dry and dusty badlands of East Province (Area Three), the same location where the Electric-type Voltorb can be encountered.

Once Trainers have found Rolycoly in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, they will need to utilize the correct elemental-type attacks to subdue the Coal Pokémon in order to catch it. As a Rock-type pocket monster, Rolycoly is vulnerable to Water-, Grass-, Fighting-, Steel-, and Ground-type Moves. Conversely, Trainers should avoid using Fire-, Poison-, Normal-, or Flying-type attacks to defeat this Coal Pokémon. Additionally, catching or defeating Rolycoly has a chance of granting players Rolycoly Coal, a TM crafting material. No evolution items or special prerequisites are required for this particular Rock-type creature to trigger the evolution. More specifically, YouTuber Quick Tips has demonstrated via gameplay that Rolycoly evolves into Carkol once its reaches Level 18. If Trainers have caught Rolycoly at Level 18 or higher, the Coal Pokémon will evolve the next time it levels up. Likewise, Carkol will evolve into Coalossal after attaining Level 34.
