When Does Season 3 Of Good Omens Come Out

The final scenes had fans stunned and everyone has been clamouring for more. After all, Gaiman has been open about the fact that he’s always envisioned three seasons of the show.

So, here’s everything you need to know about Good Omens season 3!

Will there be a Good Omens season 3?

Yes! In December 2023, Good Omens was officially renewed for season 3.

Gaiman announced the news in a statement, saying: “I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006.

“Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. Season 1 was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season 2 was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped.”

Amazon MGM Studios head of television said Vernon Sanders added: “Good Omens has checked every box for a clever, witty, and funny comedy that not only made it a success on Prime Video, but also made ‘goodness’ watchable and fun thanks to Neil and Terry’s immense creativity.

“The final season is sure to be packed with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to enjoy.”

Gaiman previously revealed that the season 2 was written to act as the connective tissue between the first season, which adapted the story told in the 1990 novel Good Omens, and a sketched out plot for a sequel story which he developed with the late Sir Terry Pratchett.

He said: “Because the hypothetical season 3 exists, there is a story that is there, and I didn’t feel that we could drive straight from season 1 into that.”

When could Good Omens season 3 be released?

There’s no confirmed release date for Good Omens season 3 just yet, but as a guess, we wouldn’t expect it any sooner than 2025 and it could even be later.

Good Omens season 2 was released four years after season 1 – although the second season was hit by obstacles such as the Covid pandemic.

Gaiman has said that season 3 won’t be filming anytime soon. He said on Tumblr: “We won’t be shooting soon. There’s a lot to do before then.”

We will keep this page updated once any further news is announced.

What will the plot of Good Omens season 3 be?

In his statement about the renewal for season 3, Gaiman gave a hint about the plot, saying: “Now in Season 3, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.”

It seems that the new season will, at least in part, follow Aziraphale and Crowley’s journey as they (hopefully!) reunite.

The final scenes of season 2 saw Crowley kissing Aziraphale and the shocked angel deciding to return to heaven without the demon. A split-screen ending shows the pair unhappily going their separate ways.

Good Omens star Maggie Service, who played a new character called Maggie in season 2, told RadioTimes.com of that ending: “Where we end, I think, is so beautifully written because none of it’s tied up in a bow, none of it’s Hollywood magic. It’s real within fantasy – and what is going to happen next?”

Good Omens cast – who will be back for season 3?

Of course, you can’t have Good Omens season 3 without Michael Sheen as Aziraphale and David Tennant and Crowley.

However, beyond the central duo, it’s hard to know who of the Good Omens cast could be back for a third season. The second season saw a major cast shake-up, with some stars returning, others leaving, some staying on but in different roles, and some new cast members joining.

The most likely returnees would seem to be Jon Hamm as Gabriel and Shelley Conn as Beelzebub (although even they are uncertain after Conn took over the role from Anna Maxwell Martin).

For now, here’s a list of the season 2 cast members who we could theoretically see back for season 3:

  • David Tennant as Crowley
  • Michael Sheen as Aziraphale
  • Jon Hamm as Gabriel
  • Maggie Service as Maggie
  • Nina Sosanya as Nina
  • Derek Jacobi as Metatron
  • Doon Mackichan as Archangel Michael
  • Miranda Richardson as Shax
  • Paul Adeyefa as Demon Eric
  • Elizabeth Berrington as Dagon
  • Abigail Lawrie as Elspeth
  • Shelley Conn as Beelzebub
  • Liz Carr as Saraqael
  • Gloria Obianyo as Uriel
  • Quelin Sepulveda as Muriel
  • Tim Downie as Mr Brown
  • Alex Norton as Tulloch
  • Andi Osho as Sitis
  • Peter Davison as Alistair
  • Ty Tennant as Ennon

However, one person who won’t be returning is director Douglas Mackinnon, who confirmed his exit from the show ahead of the renewal.

Mackinnon has directed all episodes of the David Tennant and Michael Sheen series to date and has been heavily involved in the production of the show alongside author Neil Gaiman.

However, after sharing a photo of the Good Omens set on Instagram, Mackinnon confirmed in the comments: “I’m not involved with this show anymore.”
