So, here’s what we know about Fire Force season three.

Fire Force season 3 potential release date: When will Fire Force season 3 air?

The show’s official Twitter confirmed Fire Force season three account in May 2022. Then, almost a full year later, the show’s Japanese Twitter account confirmed that season three was finally “in production”, but no release date was given.

Two major factors in the long wait for Fire Force season three are: 1) lengthy production times associated with action-heavy shonen shows, and 2) the series had nearly caught up with the manga back in 2020, so it’s likely the animation studio wanted to wait until there was plenty of material to adapt.

Given both factors, we’d be surprised if Fire Force season three materialised earlier than spring 2024.

Release date speculation has also been complicated by recent rumours that suggest that David Production, which animated the first two seasons, will be replaced by Studio Shaft.

There has even been online speculation that the new season might come out on the original manga’s tenth anniversary — although this would mean a 2025 release, so viewers would probably hope this isn’t the case.

The Fire Force anime has faithfully followed Atsushi Ohkubo’s manga so far, which means we can predict what’s on the way in season three.

Firstly, we expect it to conclude the events of the Stigma arc, which were left unresolved at the end of season two, and show us the next major confrontation between Shinra, the other Fire Force members and the White-Clad’s leaders.

Without spoiling too much, the following arc is ‘Obi’s Rescue’. This leg of the story sees the heroes of Company 8 battling against their own organisations to retrieve Captain Obi from jail.

Fire Force seasons one and two covered the manga’s first 174 chapters, collected in 20 tankōbon volumes, which accounts for just under two-thirds of the original manga. The book concluded in February 2022 with chapter 304, which means season three might be our last batch of episodes.

So, even though the show is basically caught up with the manga, you should still crack the spine of one of the books while you wait for the new season. Okubo is a creator worth supporting, especially when you ask him about his inspirations (via AnimeGeek).

“The real heroes closest to us are the firefighters all around us. They’re the closest thing we have to a hero so I really wanted to create a manga that gives them the spotlight,” Okubo said.

“I think even if you’re in the fantasy world you’re still going to have fires, right, so who puts those out? That’s why we need firefighters in this fantasy world and they have to fight fires with fantasy powers.”
