World Housekeeping Week, celebrated annually in the second week of September, is a time to recognize and appreciate these unsung heroes who ensure our living spaces are clean, organized, and comfortable.

The house keeping team at KUTRRH celebrated their week at the Hospital’s auditorium where they received training and counselling. The public health team, who play a significant role in ensuring cleanliness were also in attendance.

What is the origin of the housekeeping week?

World Housekeeping Week was first established in 1981 by the International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA). This organization recognized the

vital role that housekeepers play in maintaining hygiene and orderliness in various settings including hotels, hospitals, schools, and homes. This week offers a unique opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of housekeepers, whether they work in our homes, hotels, hospitals or other settings.

What is the purpose of the celebration?

Housekeeping week is a special week as it provides a platform for an overlooked profession to be celebrated. The celebration is important as it:

The housekeeping celebration was a weeklong one. The team invited members from other departments to offer their support in different activities like counselling. The housekeeping team had a program that involved addressing a different topic each day as follows:

· Monday – Mental Health

· Tuesday – Stress and stress management

· Wednesday – Games and field work

· Thursday – Housekeeping products and their application

· Friday – cake cutting and tree planting

Following the President’s directive each member of the housekeeping unit planted a tree at the end of the event.

World Housekeeping Week serves as a reminder that housekeepers are essential contributors to our daily lives. Their dedication and hard work often go unnoticed, but their impact on our health, safety and well-being is immeasurable.
