Old Navy has become renowned for its consistent rotation of coupons and special deals for customers over the years. One of the most beloved has been the affordable retailer’s $1 flip flop promotion every June to ring in the summer season since it launched in 2005 — that is, until now.
Recently, customers have been taking to social media to reminisce and share their mourning of the sale, where it’s likely many sourced their beach and everyday sandals for the warmer weather months. At $1, the price tag was also a total steal — compared to today, where many styles from low to high-end markets can retail from $10-$700. The occasion also held memorable elements for many shoppers, ranging from the sale’s bouncy commercial jingles to its “BOGO” deals in the 2000s.

As for those wondering what happened to the hit summer shoe event, the answer is unknown. The last known instance of the legendary sale was in 2019, with the 2020 sale cancelled due to concerns over COVID-19 while shopping in-store. However, it seems the sale is indefinitely gone for good, according to the brand.
“For the past few years, we have been focusing on delivering exceptional value on all the styles you need for summer. While we are no longer holding the $1 flip flop sale, we continue to offer great everyday prices on this summer staple both online and in stores,” an Old Navy representative told Footwear News.

Still, others reminisced on the fervor and chaos surrounding in-store shopping, such as one user who worked in the store — and, coincidentally, shared their thoughts on June 17, AKA National Flip Flop Day.
“I still have trauma from working at Old Navy when they started the $1 flip flop sale. The customers…monsters,” they Tweeted.

Though Old Navy’s $1 flip flop sale has met its demise, the brand still has a range of affordable and fashion-forward sandals in its repertoire. Many of the brand’s flip flops are currently on sale for as low as $2, while other selections of the thong style, slides and other sandals range from $3-$40 in its stores and online.
