Here’s when Los Santos is scheduled to stop being a snow-laden winter wonderland in GTA Online, at least until the next time Christmas rolls around.
GTA Online players have been able to enjoy shooting, carjacking, and heisting in-game against the backdrop of beautiful snowfall over the holiday period. Having now entered January, though, Rockstar Games has announced when exactly this month the winter fun is set to end, returning Southern San Andreas to its usual state of sunshine and anarchy. Luckily, if you haven’t yet jumped in, the good news is there’s still plenty of time to complete any limited-time events you’ve not gotten around to just yet.

2023’s holiday-themed Chop Shop content drop has been running since the middle of December, bringing a range of improvements with it such as a new business property, Salvage Yard Robberies missions, new vehicles, Drift Racing, and more. It was the perfect excuse to jump back into the online game following the GTA 6 trailer’s debut just a few days earlier, but now all the festive escapades are set to end when the snow leaves GTA Online for another year.
When does the snow leave in GTA Online?
In a post over on Rockstar’s official news wire, it’s revealed that the festive surprises will continue “through January 11”, meaning we can expect the snow to leave GTA Online the following day on January12, 2024. That’s when all the holiday-themed events, such as the ability to earn double XP, claim the Gooch mask, and destroy the 25 hidden snowmen to claim the Snowman outfit will end too.

This will likely be the last time we see snow appear anywhere on the Los Santos map until the next holiday period rolls around towards the end of this year. And while some players will no doubt be sad to see it go away, it does free GTA Online up to host once again a new set of limited-time events in future patches and updates. Some players routinely criticise the snow in GTA Online whenever it shows up, however, due to how it impacts driving – vehicles suddenly have a lot less traction on the road.
Elsewhere, new year content is already starting to roll out. Players can currently pick up a Firework Launcher in favour of the Snowball Launcher as a New Year’s gift, for instance, letting them kick 2024 off in GTA Online with a literal bang. Hopefully, this will make up for the sight of the snow going away, as Los Santos’ lower region becomes dry once again.
