The Philadelphia Eagles head into the playoffs a little wounded after a blowout loss to the New York Giants in Week 18. They’ll go on the road to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who won the NFC South for the fourth consecutive season.
For a team that had Super Bowl aspirations to start the season, the Eagles have lost five of their past six games. While two of those losses came at the hands of playoff contenders – the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys – three others came via the Giants, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. All the while, the defense gave up at least 20 points in six consecutive games.

While the Buccaneers didn’t look overly impressive in their 9-0 win over the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay’s defense has looked good in the second half of the season. The Buccaneers won five of their past six games and allowed more than 20 points in just two of those games, one of which was their loss.
Both teams have some injury concerns heading into the playoffs.
Eagles wideout DeVonta Smith and cornerback Darius Slay both missed Week 18 with injuries, and its unclear if either will be healthy enough to suit up for the wild card game. Star wide receiver A.J. Brown sustained a knee injury in the loss to the Giants, and the severity of that injury remains unknown. Quarterback Jalen Hurts also appeared to injure his pinky finger early in the game but did return before the Eagles pulled their starters after halftime.
Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield came into Week 18 with a rib injury and suffered an ankle injury early in the contest. He played the entire game, but his status for next week remains unclear as well.
These two teams played each other earlier this year already. The Eagles beat the Buccaneers in Week 3, 25-11, thanks to two touchdowns from Hurts (one passing and one rushing) and three Jake Elliott field goals. The Buccaneers had just three points until Mayfield hit wide receiver Mike Evans on a one-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Here’s what you need to know about the wild card clash between the Eagles and Buccaneers, including broadcast information and start time.
