The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are headed to Super Bowl LVIII in a rematch of Super Bowl LIV. In the AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens on the road (17-10) to advance to their fourth Super Bowl in five seasons. In the NFC Championship Game, the 49ers came from behind to beat the Detroit Lions (34-31).
This will be Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ fourth Super Bowl; he has won two and lost one. The Chiefs are seeking to become the first back-to-back NFL champion since the 2004 New England Patriots. The 49ers’ Brock Purdy is the eighth quarterback to start in the Super Bowl in his first or second NFL season, with Joe Burrow (2021) and Russell Wilson (2013) as the most recent.
