When Is Tucson Rodeo Parade

Rules and Regulations

Below are the Rules & Regulations.

Our primary focus is the safety of our spectators, entrants and livestock.

THESE RULES APPLY TO ALL ENTRIES:

1. Your completed signed and/or electronically submitted Application Form is your ACCEPTANCE, on behalf of your entry and all your entry’s participants, of all Tucson Rodeo Parade (TRP) Rules and Regulations.

2. All instructions of TRP officials must be obeyed. Failure to do so will result in removal from the Parade and may jeopardize participation in future Tucson Rodeo Parades. Safety is our first priority —- Your Safety and our Spectator’s Safety! TRP officials reserve the right to remove any entry at any time, whether as a result of safety concerns, interference with the Parade’s progress or any other reason that TRP officials deem appropriate.

3. Entries must pertain to the Southwest Heritage Theme Only! Costumes must reflect old-fashioned, Western, Native American, or Mexican Dress.

4. Two numbers must be worn and easily visible to the judges. Failure to wear numbers will lead to disqualification from competition.

5. Units with automobile tires must be completely skirted and weighted to the ground, (burlap or durable cloth of plain color is preferred).

6. RESPONSIBLE ADULT

On Parade day, each entry must be accompanied by a Responsible Adult (as identified on the Parade Application) who is in charge of the entry and responsible for their participants’ knowledge of and compliance with the Rules and Regulations of the TRP. The Responsible Adult must be designated and responsive to TRP official requests.

7. AGE REQUIREMENTS

A. The following requirements must be verified by the Entry Responsible Adult, who will ensure compliance:

C. The minimum age requirement for children mounted on horseback is 8 years old. Each mounted child, between 8 and 12 years of age, must be accompanied by a parent or adult as designated by the parent, who either walks or rides the route with the child.

D. All children mounted on horseback, between 8 and 12 years of age, must wear equestrian protective headgear that meets ASTM-SEI safety standards. Bike helmets are not permitted. Protective headgear is recommended for all participants.

E. The Responsible Adult must have signed parental permission for each child in his/her entry, which can be reviewed upon request.

F. No children under the age of 14 may walk the route. (No elementary, middle or junior high school bands.)

G. The Responsible Adult will ensure adequate adult supervision of all children participating in his/her entry.

8. SAFETY

A. TRP officials reserve the right to determine that any entry is overloaded for the equipment or the livestock. If in the opinion of a TRP official a unit appears overloaded, the “Responsible Adult” of the entry will have the opportunity to rectify the situation before being removed from the route.

B. The ultimate responsibility for safety lies with each individual entry. Entries must comply with all TRP Rules and Regulations and comply with all government regulations and safety codes, manufacturer’s recommendations and similar standards.

City Ordinance Section 11-69, #6641, 1, 2-9-87: “… It is a civil infraction for any person to use any object or thing, or do any act, in a manner which is intended or likely to startle or otherwise cause or contribute to the loss of control of any animal in the Tucson Rodeo Parade.”The following are forbidden:

-Loaded Guns

-Shooting Guns

-Fires

-Hand-pulled Units

-Noisemaker Toys

-Balloons to be Carried or Attached to Floats

D. All Parade entries shall exhibit proper disposition and control of all animals in the Parade environment without assistance, including but not limited to, the use of sedatives for horses such as Ace or Be Calm.

E. No participants or guests may load or unload horse-drawn equipment along the Parade route before, during or after the Parade unless directed by a TRP official.

F. All parties are prohibited from distributing materials (handouts, flyers, give-aways) or selling goods along the Parade route, before or during the Parade on Parade day, without the permission of the Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee.

G. All horse-drawn vehicles must be in good mechanical condition and will be subject to a safety inspection by TRP officials for a braking system, a six-foot jerk line, and harness of good repair.

H. All hitches must have a handler, on the ground, walking the route with the unit. All hitches in excess of two horses must have a minimum of two handlers, on the ground, walking the route with the unit. These handlers are in addition to horseback outriders which participate in the entry.

9. PARADE PACE

A. All entries must be willing and sufficiently physically fit to maintain both the Parade pace and spacing as set by TRP officials. Entries unable or refusing to maintain the Parade pace and/or spacing will be removed from the Parade route.

B. All entries, including marching bands, must move forward at all times along the Parade route. Failure to comply will lead to disqualification in competition, and/or removal from the Parade.Unless pre-approved and arranged by the TRP, entries must not slow from the Parade pace along the “on-camera” areas nor stop for media interviews.

C. Entries so choosing to “extend” their time on camera, at the expense of those entries behind them on the Parade route, will be removed from the Parade and may be prohibited from future Parade participation.

10. ABUSE

A. The Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee has a ZERO TOLERANCE for animal abuse. Persons abusing animals shall immediately be removed from the route and be reported to the authorities. All livestock shall be in good health and sound condition.

B. The Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee has a ZERO TOLERANCE for those choosing to abuse our volunteers or our entrants. Please promptly report violators to TRP officials on the route or afterwards to a Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee member.

11. RESTRICTIONS

A. The use of alcoholic beverages by participants in any capacity in the Tucson Rodeo Parade is prohibited.

B. No motor vehicles, bicycles, roller skates, pull carts, wagons, or dogs.

C. No entry with a total height greater than 13 feet, 6 inches shall be allowed

D. No walking drill teams or walking entries except marching bands.

E. No protest groups.

F. No political campaign entries.

12.SIGNS FOR ADVERTISING

Commercial entrants may enhance their advertising/exposure by paying for a sign option. Signs must be in proportion to the size of the wagon. All commercial entrants that fail to pay in advance for sign options will be billed after the Parade.

Unless the commercial entrant purchases an advertising sign option through the TRPC, only two signs not over 9” x 24” are allowed per entry. Signs options include the following:

  1. Two 9″x 24″ signs are provided for Parade equipment rentals only. All other entrants will provide two 9” x 24” signs, at no TRPC fee.
  2. Two 2′ x 4′ signs may be provided by the entrant for a $200 advertising fee which includes 3 grandstand tickets and 3 museum tickets.
  3. Two 4′ x 8′ signs may be provided by the entrant for a $350 advertising fee which includes 6 grandstand tickets and 6 museums.
