When Was Carnival Magic Built

The Carnival Magic is the second cruise ship in Carnival Cruise Lines’ Dream Class.

It is the sister ship of the Carnival Dream, which entered service in September 2009.

The 130,000t ship was built by Fincantieri at its Monfalcone yard in Italy and entered service in May 2011. Its keel was laid in January 2010 while its launch took place in August 2010 at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard. The ship was delivered to Carnival Cruise Lines in April 2011.

The cruise ship features a water park, a café/live entertainment venue, an outdoor promenade and a range of stateroom categories.

Carnival Magic technical specifications

The Carnival Magic is 306m long, 37m wide and is capable of cruising at a speed of 22.5k. The length between perpendiculars is 269.2m. The ship has 1,845 passenger cabins and 746 crew cabins providing a total passenger capacity of over 6,000. It is powered by diesel-electric propulsion system.

Carnival Magic construction

Carnival Magic was constructed in sections between August 2009 and August 2010. During this dry-dock period, stern installation, funnel construction, midship construction and bow installation were completed.

The ship was wet-docked in September and October 2010 in order to load stationary and cargo.

Cruise ship staterooms

The ship offers a range of accommodation categories. Balcony rooms include the Balcony Stateroom, the Cloud 9 Spa Balcony Stateroom, the Cloud 9 Spa Ocean View Stateroom, the Cloud 9 Spa Suite, the Cove Balcony Stateroom and the Premium Vista Balcony.

Inside rooms available are the Interior Stateroom, the Interior Upper / Lower Stateroom and the Cloud 9 Spa Interior Stateroom. Oceanview rooms include the Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom and the Ocean View Stateroom. Suite and Grand Suite room categories are also available.

Staterooms feature the Carnival comfort bed and a flatscreen TV. Deluxe Oceanview staterooms have a bathroom with shower, a separate washroom sink and a junior tub.

The Cloud 9 Spa rooms have exclusive access to spa amenities. The family cabins can accommodate up to five passengers. The Cove Balconies, located on the lower Riviera Deck, are an alternative to the larger balcony staterooms. These balconies feature small patios with ocean views.

Carnival Magic dining facilities

The ship has formal and casual dining areas, including two double-level dining rooms, a poolside restaurant, a steakhouse and a sushi bar. The ship also includes the Cucina del Capitano, a family friendly Italian restaurant.

Carnival Magic includes SkyCourse, a suspended ropes course with exclusive views to the sea 150ft below. The ship houses Ocean Plaza, an indoor/outdoor dining and entertainment promenade.

Cruise ship entertainment facilities

The Carnival Magic has a range of entertainment venues including the Serenity, an adults-only area located on top of the ship, and the auditorium on deck 3, which hosts entertainment shows.

Club O2 is a teens-only area that offers movies, music, videogames and Karaoke. Camp Carnival offers a wide range of activities designed for children from two to 11 years. Circle C is a dedicated area for kids between 12-14 years, and host a variety of activities.

The ship has two freshwater pools. The aft pool features whirlpools while the main pool has a theatre. A miniature golf course and an expansive WaterWorks aqua park with multiple water slides is located on deck 12.

Wi-Fi connectivity is provided across the ship. The Cloud 9 Spa occupies an area of 23,750ft² and features a thalassotherapy pool, thermal suite and an elaborate spa and gymnasium.

Other facilities include a casino, a conference room, an internet café, a library, an art gallery and fun shops. The cruise ship also includes Carribbean-themed RedFrog Pub.

Carnival Magic itinerary

The Carnival Magic commenced operations in May 2011 with an inaugural nine-day Mediterranean cruise from Venice to Barcelona. The 2011 Mediterranean schedule included three seven-day voyages, six nine-day cruises and eight 12-day voyages. The all three itineraries operated round-trip from Barcelona from May to October 2011.

In February 2020, Carnival Cruise Line signed a five-year agreement with the City of Norfolk to operate seasonal cruises from the Half Moone Cruise Centre, Norfolk, US, until 2025. The cruise ship was expected to become the largest cruise ship in 2021 to sail from Norfolk with a series of 12 cruises carrying approximately 50,000 guests from the port.

Carnival Corporation cancelled the itineraries of Carnival Magic operating from Miami until 13 March 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The ship is expected to arrive Norfolk in May 2022.

Carnival Magic’s 2021 schedule includes two six-day cruises to Freeport, Nassau and the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay in May and June.
