519 AREA CODE NUMBER: LOCATION, CITIES, MAP AND TIME ZONE

The 519 area code is one of several area codes that serve the majority of the communities in Southwest Ontario that fall outside the Toronto Metropolitan area. Area code 519 was not one of the original area codes introduced in 1947 with the implementation of the North American Numbering System, but instead one of the earliest of the supplemental area codes introduced to help meet an increasing demand for telephone numbers.

Area code 519 was created and implemented in 1953 to help ease the burden on the 416 and 613 area codes. Itself has since been supplemented and later overlaid, several times, and yet it still covers all of the following towns, cities, and communities:

The geographical region covered by the 519 area code has long been a relatively prosperous one but in the 21st century some of the places it serves have become particularly important and influential not just in Ontario but across Canada as a whole. Here is a brief look at some of them.

  • Kitchener-Waterloo Region – Officially, the Kitchener-Waterloo Region is now simply known for legal purposes as the Waterloo Region and is made up of the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and the smaller townships of Wellesley, Woolwich, Wilmot, and North Dumfries. It is served by both the 519 area code and the newer 226 area codes.

It colorful history makes the Kitchener-Waterloo Region of the 21st century a very interesting place. Nods to its history can be found almost everywhere, including in the many century old – and older – buildings that still make up part of the downtown regions of both Waterloo and Kitchener.

On the other hand, though the area is also a booming business region, with big tech players such as Google and Blackberry spearheading a very vibrant economy. This has also led to one of the hottest real estate markets in Canada, with residential dwellings in such demand that they often only have a for sale sign in the yard for a few days before being snapped up. All of this have helped the 519 area code gain a reputation as one that almost any upcoming business would like to make use of.

  • London – Named after, as you have likely guessed, the capital city of the United Kingdom, London, Ontario is a lively mixture of business innovation and educational excellence and its decade-long growth has earned it the rank of 11th largest metropolitan area in all of Canada.

Modern London, Ontario is an important center for biotechnology and medical research but it is also gaining a new reputation as a destination for independent video game companies to set up shop and thrive, as well as small businesses.

Why Area Codes Still Matter

In theory, an area code used anywhere in the world is simply a three-digit number that help placing a telephone call easier. At least, that was the intention when they were implemented by A T & T and Bell in the late 1940s. Over the years though they have also taken on significance as regional identifiers, making it easy for someone to locate a caller just by their area code alone.

While this is handy for all telephone and communications services subscribers, it can be particularly useful for businesses. Every business needs to build a brand, and the area code they ‘belong to’ can be an important part of that brand, especially in terms of building consumer trust.

How to Choose Your Own Area Code

In the past, the area code assigned to any telephone number was decided only on the geographical location of the subscriber, residential or business customers. That is still the case when dealing with a traditional phone company.

If you would prefer that your business make use of the 519 area code, perhaps because that’s where your target market is primarily located; if your physical location does not quite fall into the right region you’ll be out of luck.

It is possible to choose the area code, including the 519 area code, as your business’ area code even if it’s located miles away from Southern Ontario region it serves. This is made possible via Digital Voice telephone systems and in fact, this convenience is just one of the many reasons that an increasing number of people, and businesses are making the switch from a traditional PBX-based system provided by their local phone company to a cloud-based, Internet-powered Digital Voice system.

Making the Move to Cloud

Usually, when a business first orders a telephone service or plans to expand their existing service, they have to go through a rather long and arduous process. After determining which local phone company serves their area, they must negotiate a service package, usually one that goes up in price the more services they wish to add; sign a binding contract that will usually be in effect for several years, agree to buy or lease the equipment needed to power their communications and then finally wait for technicians to be dispatched to their location to install everything that will be needed to make it all work.

Often the inconveniences don’t end there. The monthly phone bill comes along with all kinds of local taxes and regulatory fees that while fairly small on the face of things actually add up on an annual basis. And, if something goes wrong, once again a local phone company customer may find themselves at the mercy of the repairman’s busy schedule and without proper service for some time.

Digital Voice Calling and the other data services that come along with it solves many of these problems. The equipment needed to make it all work is located only at the provider’s premises and the installation of new lines and implementation of new numbers are completed remotely, usually in few hours.

Expansion, when required is just a few clicks away and many of the extra features that the local phone company charges a great deal extra for are either included free or offer at a very low extra cost. Extra features include: IVR, auto attendant, intelligent voicemail, mobile and data integration.

If your business would benefit from a more affordable, more efficient telephone and communications system, as well as being able to offer consumers a 519 area code number to get in touch with you, we can help.

But perhaps only for a limited time. As the area the 519 area code covers continues to grow and thrive the demand for numbers is still increasing, and so there will come a point when there will simply be no more unique digit combinations left.
