Where Can I Ride A Bull For The First Time

I get asked the same question many times a day…”how do I get started riding bulls?” People all over the world are interested in becoming a bull rider but have no idea how to do so.

Here’s a list of things I recommend you do to get started:

  1. Start working out and getting in good physical condition. Check out my articles about exercising.
  2. I have an online bull riding course available that walks you through the steps to ride a bull. It includes everything I teach at a clinic plus extras, and you can go through it as many times as you want. It is a great starting point and companion to my clinics. Check it out here: https://howtobullride.com.
  3. The BEST thing you can do to start riding bulls the right way is to attend a bull riding clinic/school with a professional instructor. I do a few clinics each year in the Western US during the Spring, Summer, and Fall (see my clinic schedule HERE). If you can’t make it to one of my clinics, I highly recommend Cody Custer’s clinics. He does several clinics per year in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arizona. Check out Cody’s Facebook page for his clinic schedule HERE. There are probably other bull riding clinics that may be closer to you, but I cannot vouch for the instructors, so be careful and do some research before you sign up.
  4. After you’ve had the proper training, you will also need to get on practice bulls regularly. You may be able to find bulls to ride by calling stock contractors in your area to see if they have any practice sessions or know of any place that offers that. You can also contact local rodeo associations and college and high school rodeo programs.

As you are probably realizing, becoming a bull rider may be difficult depending on where you live and your financial situation. However, if you are determined enough, you will find a way to make it happen.

To summarize, you have to learn the right information, practice the right way, and set the right goals. Work hard, do something every day to improve, and enjoy the journey!
