Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean the actual filming of the movie took place there, leaving us to answer the question: where was “10 Things I Hate About You” filmed? Well, according to the movie’s IMDB page, they shot the movie in two locations in Washington State, Tacoma, and Seattle.

Up next we’ll break down what they shot where.

Before we check out Seattle, let’s first check out some of the major locations from the movie they filmed in Tacoma, Washington.

First up, we have Kat and Bianca’s house. The gorgeous waterfront house is a sight to behold and is sure to beg the question: where was “10 Things I Hate About You” filmed? According to OtakuKart, the house is in Tacoma’s North End District and is across Commencement Bay from Mount Rainier. Reportedly the house sold for a whopping 1.5 million dollars in 2018, and it’s easy to see why. The view and neighborhood are absolutely gorgeous.

Another prominent Tacoma, Washington location from the movie where quite a lot of the drama takes place is the stunning Padua High School which looks more like a castle than a high school. The real-life counterpart is actually called Stadium High School and, according to OtakuKart, is nicknamed “The Brown Castle”. It wasn’t always a high school, the building was actually a tourist hotel in the late 19th century. Padua High School looks like something out of a play, and the uniqueness of the structure makes it perfect for a Shakespeare adaptation.

Now that we’ve covered some of the locations from Tacoma, we can move on to Seattle for the remainder. There are so many interesting backdrops for scenes in the movie that are sure to make viewers ask: where was “10 Things I Hate About You” filmed?

One of which is that opening shot of Seattle we mentioned earlier. According to Bustle, this is actually Kerry Park, and it’s one of the best places in the area to get a view of Mount Rainier and the Seattle Skyline.

Another one they reveal the location of is the really cool troll statue emerging from the ground under a bridge in the scene where Bianca and Cameron are plotting against Kat. This is the “Fremont Troll,” and you can find it under Seattle’s Aurora Bridge. Be sure to visit this one for yourself as it’s a popular tourist destination and you can climb all over the statue if you feel like it!

Next up is the lake where Kat and Patrick enjoy a little time out on the water in a paddleboat. The same article in Bustle says that this is Seattle’s Lake Union. However, the author says you can’t rent the same paddleboat they ride in, but you can rent a stand-up paddle boat or a kayak.

One scene we’d hate to forget is the one where the lovebirds enjoy their first kiss after a game of paintball. According to Movie-Locations, this is also in Seattle and is called Gasworks Park. Although you won’t be able to play paintball there, you’ll still find 20 acres of outdoor space to enjoy and relax in.

The last location we’re going to cover today is the grand finale of the movie and what everything was leading up to, Padua High School’s prom. They actually shot this in two different places, according to Movie-Locations. One is the Paramount Theater for the lobby shots. And the other is down the street at the Century Ballroom for the rest of the prom.
