Where Does Rublev Live

Tennis star Andrey Rublev has admitted that he still can’t afford to buy his own apartment, despite having £5.5m to his name in career earnings.

World no.8 Rublev is now a multi-millionaire at just 23, and has already earned £700,000 this year.

The Russian is unbeaten in ATP 500 events in 21 matches, and reached the quarter finals of the Australian Open last month.

However, due to the pandemic, Rublev has revealed that his life isn’t perhaps as flashy as you might think.

The four-time Grand Slam quarter finalist, who lives in Moscow, says that costs at the top of tennis have meant that he cannot buy his own property.

“In 2020 I had to pay my team members for five months without competing due to COVID,” he said ahead of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

“Luckily I did not have to pay any air flight ticket. I still earned money, but tennis is a very costly sport.”

Rublev is also one of several opponents to the new COVID-affected ranking system, which has primarily been introduced to protect those who competed very little in 2020.

Fellow competitor, world no.7 Alexander Zverev, has labeled the system “absurd” – and Rublev is seemingly in agreement.

He went on to state: “If we would have the normal system, I would be like No. 4 in the world I think.

“So what do you think is better for me, to be No. 8 or No. 4?”

“With the system that we’re having now, for me, it’s much tougher to be No. 4, so here is the answer.”

Rublev will be hoping to win his 5th consecutive ATP 500 tournament in Dubai this week.

He takes on American Taylor Fritz in the Round of 16 next.
