Microsoft revealed the stunning Forza Horizon 3 during its E3 2016 press conference with a stunning trailer that spectacularly caught the beauty of Australia.
Forza Horizon 3 will feature the Lamborghini Centenario, which looks amazing as it sprawls the Australian outback.

The racing game will also be Play Anywhere feature compatible, in which players across multiple platforms can race with and against each other. Forza Horizon 3 also promises to offer the largest car roster in Horizon history, and with four-player co-op, it presents as good a time as ever to jump into one of gaming’s best arcade racing experiences.
Set to launch on September 27 on Xbox One and PC, Forza Horizon 3 could be the best virtual representation of Australia yet.
While a number of reports claim the game is set in the Australian “Outback”, it’s clear from the trailer that it’s set in a number of different regions, from the Yarra Valley wine country and the region’s stunning rainforests, to the beautiful, winding roads of the Great Ocean Road. Here’s what we know about Forza Horizon 3‘s locations from the trailer, and the places we’d like to see.
Great Ocean Road
The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia, passing between the surf towns of Torquay and Allansford. At about 240km long, it’s one of the most beautiful — and challenging — rides you can take in Australia. The speed limit varies between 60km/h and 100km/h due to the challenging nature of the road, but it’s well worth the slow, long trek along the Surf Coast. It’s a perfect fit for the Forza Horizon experience.
The Outback (aka The Red Center aka Remote Australia)

While Australian’s tend to refer to it as “remote Australia”, The Outback is known internationally as vast, harsh, diverse and beautiful. Home to some of the world’s most stunning natural wonders, not to mention plenty of open road, The Outback should be a spectacular place to race in Forza Horizon 3, be it on the long, fast highways through the Northern Territory, or across the sand dunes of the Simpson Desert.
Yarra Valley
The Yarra Valley technically compromises all of the regions that surround the 80km-long Yarra River, including the city of Melbourne, but the term locally and internationally is used to refer to the outer regions of the river, which features gorgeous rainforests, sprawling vineyards and some of the country’s best wineries. Simply put, the Yarra Valley is Victoria’s (if not Australia’s) premiere wine country.
Surfers Paradise
Don’t let the name fool you: while Surfers Paradise does have some decent waves, it acts more as a gateway to the coast. To Australians, the name “Surfers Paradise” associates more with winter beach getaways (it’s dry season is during the Aussie winter), partying, and Schoolies (an annual festival for high school graduates from around the country). It’s certainly one of the more beautiful and relaxing cities in the country, and as such is a popular getaway for people from Melbourne and Sydney.
DLC locations we’d like to see
Tasmania
Tasmania truly is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It’s certainly the coolest part of Australia, temperature wise, and the fact the Yarra Valley and Great Ocean Road are already in Horizon 3 might mean a Tasmania inclusion is unlikely due to some aesthetic similarities, but it’s a state with as much of a diverse landscape as anywhere else in Australia.
Tropical Queensland
Far north Queensland is a magical place. The trailer hinted at it with some shots of what appeared to be a jungle, although based on pictures of the Yarra Valley it seems to be that region’s iconic rainforests. Queensland has some amazing roads through some of the world’s most stunning — and dangerous — jungles, which make it a perfect location for Horizon 3.
Sydney Harbour
If Horizon 3 is based exclusively in Australia — and it is going by reports — then Sydney Harbour, one would think, is a given to be included. The ride across the Sydney Harbour Bridge is something any visitor to Australia must do, and while as a Melburnian I’m not aloud to talk up Sydney too much, I must admit that a racing game based in Australia wouldn’t be complete without a Harbour Bridge route.
