The popular hit HGTV show Unsellable Houses features twin real estate consultants Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis coaching desperate sellers about getting rid of their homes. The show is the epitome of a home glow-up, and hideous houses often get turned into hidden gems.

One of the key components of turning homes around was contractor Jeff Laurence.

But when Season 4 arrived in summer 2023, Jeff’s recent absence from the show was noted by fans, who began to wonder: What happened to Jeff?

So, what happened to Jeff on ‘Unsellable Houses’?

It might surprise fans to know that Jeff’s role on HGTV was actually a side business. He is also the founder of JL Remodeling, a remodeling business that does homes, kitchen and bath remodels, and even community projects. JL Remodeling has its own team of employees who often worked with Unsellable Houses as well. JL Remodeling has been around since 2001 and is Jeff’s primary place of work.

In an August 2023 post on the Instagram page for Lamb & Co. (the twins’ company), a commenter asked about Jeff’s whereabouts in Season 4. The company responded:

“Jeff will not be on this season. He’s focusing on growing his business and we’re expanding ours with Lamb & Co. Renovation—wishing him and his company nothing but the best!”

Why did Jeff leave ‘Unsellable Houses’?

Over on JL Remodeling’s YouTube page, a video from November 2022 (called “A New Chapter”) sheds some more light on Jeff’s other projects — specifically JL Cares, a program meant to give back to communities by letting folks nominate neighbors who could use a house remodel. You can catch different episodes of the “JL Cares” series on the same YouTube page.

In September 2023, Jeff uploaded another video to YouTube to address the question of “Where is Jeff?” He said he’s actually been quite busy, and that fans were welcome to join him on this “new era” of work and life. So it looks like fans can continue to follow along on his different projects and journeys.

Whenever Jeff was absent in previous seasons, fans always inquired about the his whereabouts too.

In April 2021 when Jeff was missing from some episodes, viewers took to Twitter and Instagram with comments such as, “Hey #UnsellableHouses, I like Pete and Palmer but where is JEFF??” and, “Love the show. Are you still working with Jeff? Always loved the dynamic between all of you.”

In response to an Instagram comment inquiring where Jeff was, Lyndsay and Leslie responded at the time, “He is our main guy! We just had a few weeks we needed extra help so you see a few others but he will be back!”

Fans also inquired about Jeff’s absence in late 2020 — but it turns out he had just been on vacation.

Is ‘Unsellable Houses’ fake? Some fans are suspicious of the show’s authenticity.

Many have praised Unsellable Houses for being more realistic about the amount people on a budget have to renovate their homes, but some fans are still uncertain of the show’s authenticity. The show relies on the expertise of Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis, and both have the experience to prove that they know their stuff.

The sisters have been real estate agents since 2009. Likewise, contractor Jeff Laurence has owned JL Remodeling since 2001.

Critics believe the show is scripted due to the large numbers of homes that seem to go for post-renovation and because the restoration process feels sped up or certain parts are glossed over. Some of the time-lapse editing might be done to squeeze the show into a certain time frame, but it wouldn’t be the first time that an HGTV show has been accused of being fake. However, it appears that the majority of the show is, in fact, authentic.
