She landed her first leading character by the late 90s as Ellie Christianson, a rebellious teenage girl in Wicked – the thriller, not the witchy musical.
Between 2002 to 2016, Julia was on a role with her film career: she featured in The Bourne Supremacy, Mona Lisa Smile, and Silver Linings Playbook – the latter earned her a SAG Award nomination.
But it’s been a minute since fans have watched Stiles take over screens in major productions. So, what has she been up to recently?

Despite her reduced roles, Julia has appeared in at least six productions in the last two years.
She has been the protagonist in the Sky Atlantic drama, Riviera, since 2017 and served as the voice of Olivia Kullersen in DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms.
The 41-year-old also briefly resided in Ontario, Canada for the filming of Amazon Prime Video‘s first scripted Canadian series, The Lake.
When she’s not on set, however, she’s at home bonding with her two sons – Strummer Newcomb (born October 2017), and Arlo (born January 2022). She shares them with her husband, Preston J Cook, a camera assistant she met on the set of Blackway. They tied the knot in September 2017.
She expressedcareer concerns during her Hustlers era
After 2016, jobs for the teen idol gradually dwindled to about one or two productions per year. Previously the “it” actress of Hollywood, Julia made a comeback in 2019 for the Jennifer Lopez-led movie, Hustlers, alongside a stacked female cast featuring Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, and Cardi B.

As a fan of the New York magazine article, The Hustlers At Scores, which the film is based on, Julia was desperate for a role – even willing to “sweep floors”, she told Daily Beast.
“But a movie like Hustlers to me is such an affirmation that like I have a place in the film industry and stories that I’m interested in are being told.”
It was a career revival for the mother of two, who admitted that Hollywood didn’t “know what to do with me.”
“You know, I had had some success in my twenties and now I’m in a different place in my life and I didn’t really fit anywhere,” she recalled.
That being said, Julia is still a guest at countless premieres and fashion events, so if you miss her on screen, you’ll find her sitting front row somewhere.
