Skyrim’s Hearthfire DLC allowed players to leave their mark on the province by constructing and customizing three distinct homesteads. Each homestead begins as just a tiny one-room house built up to an entire estate with a grand hall, a cellar, and three wings that can be customized to have a different purpose.
This allows each homestead to suit the player’s needs while also making them feel more personal and at home. The most beautiful homestead in Skyrim is Lakeview Manor, nestled in the mountains just outside of Falkreath.

Purchasing Lakeview Manor
The plot of land needed to build Lakeview Manor can be purchased by the Jarl of Falkreath, but what you’ll have to do beforehand depends on who holds the title. The default Jarl of Falkreath is Siddgeir, but depending on your progression and choices in the Civil War questline up to this point, it can also be Dengeir.
If Dengeir has been made the Jarl of Falkreath, you won’t have to do anything else, as they’ll make it available to you as thanks for their new position. However, if Siddgeir is still the Jarl, you’ll have to take out a group of bandits for him. Whichever you do, you can then talk to the Jarl’s Steward and purchase the plot of land to build Lakeview Manor on for 5,000 gold.
Nearby Features
When you first go to your new land, it will be an empty flat plot except for a drafting table, carpenter’s bench, anvil, and a chest. The drafting table is where you’ll select wings to build, while the carpenter’s bench is used to craft doors, foundations, supports, and roofs for the building.
The chest is a great way to store materials while you go away, as they can get cumbersome and bog down your carry weight. If you head down the small cliff at the end of the lot, you’ll also find the stone quarry and a pickaxe, which you can use to mine theQuarried Stone you’ll need to do a lot of the building. If you head west from the carpenter’s workbench, you’ll find the lot’s clay deposits, a wood chopping block, and a log pile where your wood will be stored.
To the south of the lot, you will find two iron ore veins; to the southwest, there is one corundum ore vein, and a second is far to the west by two silver ore veins.
As you build the house, you’ll also notice that the lot and surrounding area have other unique features as well. Not only can you make an apiary on the grounds to have a steady supply of honey, but there is a wolve’s den to the west of the lot. Once you build your main hall, a falcon’s nest will also appear on its roof, which can be a great way to get eggs.
To the north of your lot, you’ll find the ruins of Bleak Falls Barrow and to the south is Pinewatch. There is also a Conjurer’s Altar near your lot, where you can stumble on an enemy mage that will perform dark rituals to your north. He isn’t much to take care of, but you’ll probably want to put an end to his practices before you bring the family.
Building Lakeview Manor
Once you get familiar with the lot and surrounding area, you’ll want to start building your house. To start, you’ll have to go to your drafting table and select to make a small house. This will allow you to create a one-room abode that can then be converted into a foyer once you’re ready to build the main hall and three wings. To build all of them, you’ll have to gather a ton of supplies like iron, lumber, quarried stone, corundum, glass, and plenty more.
Small House
To build the small house, you’ll have to gather the following materials to make each of its parts.

Once you have the Small House built, you can go inside to find another table that you can interact with to build the furnishings inside it. However, since the building will eventually be converted into the house’s entryway, you’ll want to skip crafting the Firepit and Hanging Rack because they’ll be lost once you restore them.
