Leslie Charleson is back on General Hospital
The absence of Leslie Charleson on General Hospital for close to 2 years has fans wondering where she has been. She was last seen in January 2022 and a GH promo indicates she will return this week as Monica Quartermaine and have a scene with Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). Monica is shown seated and some fans say Charleson looks as though she has been through a health crisis.
Fans noticed that her face is fuller as though she might have gained some weight and the 78-year-old actress is somewhat slumped and not sitting up straight. These things are a part of normal aging for some seniors and it’s natural there will be some changes after 23 months away from the soap.

Charleson’s 45th anniversary on the GH came and went last August without anyone from the soap even acknowledging her. Soap spoilers recycled an old interview from a previous anniversary and ran it as though they had spoken with the actress last year but this was not the case.

Viewers wondered if something was going on with the soap veteran and she requested that her personal life remain private. Executive producer Frank Valentini has not said one word about the longest-running member of the cast and none of the cast mentioned her either. August of 2023 came and went and again nothing was said.
Where has the actress been for the past 2 years?
It’s normal for fans to wonder where the beloved soap vet has been but respect her right to keep her situation to herself. Charleson was on an episode of State of Mind with Maurice Benard on the first of March but mentioned nothing about stepping away from General Hospital. Fans understand celebrities not wanting to divulge all of their business but someone who has been on a series for close to half a century is a big deal.
Spoilers and news outlets speculated about Charleson but no facts were given. It was mentioned several times on General Hospital that Monica was away on a conference and she spoke to Oliva Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) on the phone to give the OK for Liz Webber (Rebecca Herbst) to get the head nurse position after the death of Epiphany Johnson ( Sonya Edie).

When it was announced that Jane Elliot was returning as Tracy Quartermaine some fans were hoping she and Monica would return in time for the Q Thanksgiving pizza fest. Tracy returned on Monday lamenting her loss of Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). The promo has Tracy telling her sister-in-law (You’re not going to like this” and viewers are curious as to what this is about.
General Hospital viewers enjoy when these two women get together and love to hear Monica point out that Alan Quartermanine (Stuart Damon) gave her the house. There is a lot going on that Dr. Quartermaine will have to be brought up to speed on. Harrison Chase (Josh Swickart) and Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) are engaged, and Austin Gatlin Host (Roger Howarth has been murdered). Ned Quartermaine ( Wally Kurth) had amnesia and thought he was Eddie Maine and Lois Cerillo (Rema Sofer) is back in Port Charles and staying with the Q’s.
Perhaps Monica has been keeping in touch with her family and she is aware of all of these things. She may just get into the swing of her life and it will be as if she never left. Be sure to keep tuning in to the Port Charles action to find out what comes next for Monica. When Charleson disappeared she was on recurring status with General Hospital and this more than likely will continue.
