Where Is Morgan Geyser Now

One of the two Wisconsin preteens convicted of attempting to murder their pal in the so-called “Slender Man” stabbing nearly a decade ago is asking to be sprung from a mental institution.

Morgan Geyser, now 21, has petitioned for conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, FOX6 News reported.

She was initially sentenced to a maximum of 40 years in the facility in 2018, after she was found not guilty by reason of mental disease for the brutal stabbing of her friend, Payton Leutner, the outlet explained.

She withdrew prior petitions for early release in 2022 and 2023.

A judge now has 30 days to appoint doctors to evaluate Geyser before the issue appears before the court.

Anissa Weier – who was also committed Winnebago in 2017 for her role in the attack – was granted conditional release in September 2021, FOX6 said.

Morgan Geyser was 12 years old when she stabbed her friend in 2014.

She was required to receive outpatient psychiatric treatment and subject to GPS monitoring – though the latter was waived in September 2023.

Prosecutors said that Geyser and Weier lured Leurner into the woods in Waukesha following a sleepover in May 2014.

Geyser then repeatedly stabbed Leutner while Weier looked on.

Payton Leutner narrowly survived the stabbing by dragging herself to safety.

Leutner survived the attack by dragging herself out of the woods and flagging down a bicyclist.

The two attackers were later found walking together along an interstate.

When interviewed by police, Geyser and Weier claimed they attacked their friend to appease the fictional character Slender Man – a tall, slim, faceless creature that was first developed in online forums and was said to lurk in forests traumatizing children, according to Newsweek.

Weier and Geyser both reportedly discovered Slender Man folklore on the website Creepypasta.

The Waukesha incident was the most notorious in a spate of violence in which young offenders claimed to be inspired by the online boogeyman. In August 2014, for example, a 14-year-old in Florida set her family’s home on fire after reading about Slender Man, ABC News reported.
