Approximately 2.2 million Peloton bikes are being recalled immediately, according to a release issued today by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Per the release, Peloton has received 35 reports of the seat posts breaking and detaching from the bike during use, causing 13 reports of injuries including a fractured wrist, lacerations and bruises due to falling from the bike. While the recall is voluntary on Peloton’s part, it is a stop use recall.

Which Peloton model is affected?
This recall involves Peloton Bikes with model number PL01. The Peloton Bike in question measures 4 ft. long x 2 ft. wide, and is equipped with the standard adjustable seat, handlebar, and screen.

Other identifiers supplied by the company include the red “P” logo followed by the white-colored Peloton brand name on the bike’s frame, and by its non-swivel display.
The affected Peloton Bikes were sold at Peloton and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide and online at Onepeloton.com, Amazon.com and Dicksportinggoods.com from January 2018 through May 2023 for about $1,400.
Where can I find my Peloton’s model number?
The Peloton name and the model number are displayed on the inside front fork, near the flywheel. If your bike has the model number PL01, stop using it. Seriously!
What should I do if my Peloton Bike is affected by the recall?
Anyone who owns one of the affected models should “immediately stop using” the recalled exercise bike and contact Peloton for a free repair, the CPSC says.

Peloton is offering consumers a free replacement seatpost that can be self-installed. Peloton Bike owners can order the free replacement seatpost by using a form on the company website.
What if I am not the original owner?
The company states that “current Peloton Bike owners” may order a replacement seatpost at no charge on their website, but do not specify whether the requester must have purchased the bike new, or whether the free replacement seatpost is also available to owners who purchased their Peloton secondhand. In order to place the free order, a Peloton login is required.
