Where Is Shy Glizzy From

Background

Marquis Amonte King, popularly known as Shy Glizzy, was born on December 12, 1992, at Greater Southeast Community Hospital, and grew up in Southeast Washington, D.C., on 37th Street, near Fort Dupont Park. His father died when he was an infant. Not long, he got involved in petty street crime, was arrested, and served prison time for robbery charges when he was 16 years old. King began rapping after serving time in a juvenile correctional center, where he also received his GED (general educational development). He tried to write a book as a teenager, but it turned out to be a song instead.

In early 2011, he released “No Brainer,” his first mixtape; on October 31, he released “Streets Hottest Youngin,” his second mixtape. He announced his sixth mixtape, “Law 2,” on April 3, 2013, and it was released on August 1 of the same year. It featured guest appearances from Migos, Yo Gotti, Starlito, and Kevin Gates, among others. Fact, a music magazine based in the U.K., named him one of the 10 Rappers to Watch in 2014. King announced his seventh mixtape, “Young Jefe,” on January 20, 2014, and it was released on February 17, with guest appearances from Young Scooter, PeeWee Longway, Young Thug, Plies, and Gudda Gudda. The hit tune ‘Awsome,’ from that mixtape, became his most popular song, peaking at number 45 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list in the United States. It had a remix, from the album featuring A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz, which had over 750,000 SoundCloud streams in the first week of its release.

On October 18, 2018, King released his debut studio album, “Fully Loaded,” and it included collaborations with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Gunna, and Rick Ross. The album gained favorable reviews and reached number 35 on the Billboard 200 in its first week, selling 14,446 album-equivalent units. It was announced that King will join Atlanta rapper Gunna on his “Drip or Drown 2” tour, which would take him across the country. After kicking off the year with tracks such as ‘Lonely Vibes’ and ‘Right or Wrong,’ the rapper released his 14th mixtape, “Young Jefe 3,” in September, featuring Lil Uzi Vert, Meek Mill, and Ty Dolla $ign.
