Where Is The Big Ten Tournament

Who is ready for some Big Ten Tournament Madness?

Though it hasn’t been a traditional year in the Big Ten this season in terms of the number of teams in the national polls, there has been depth in the conference that shows any team can win on any given night. But first, one of the other 13 Big Ten teams will have to take down powerhouse Purdue.

The Boilermakers, anchored by 7-foot-4 behemoth forward Zach Edey, are once again the 1-seed in the conference tournament and have all but guaranteed themselves a top seed in the NCAA Tournament. Matt Painter’s squad enters the Big Ten tournament chasing some history, as it looks to become just the third Big Ten program to win back-to-back conference tournament titles.

Brad Underwood’s Fighting Illini are tabbed as the No. 2 seed in Minneapolis and, like the Boilermakers, are well-situated heading into March Madness. Senior guard Terrence Shannon Jr. is having a career season at Illinois, averaging a career-best 21.6 points per game along with 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. In the last four games, Shannon has been scorching hot from the field, averaging 22.0 points in that span.

While Purdue and Illinois are the favorite heading in to the Big Ten Tournament, there are a handful of teams that can make a run at it such as No. 3 Nebraska and No. 4 Northwestern.

Keisei Tominaga has helped lead Nebraska to its best year in the Big Ten and the No. 3 seed. The Japanese sharpshooter poured in 30 points on Sunday against Michigan State on 12-of-17 shooting. The Cornhuskers already took down Purdue once this season, so can Big Red do it again if it faces the Boilermakers in Sunday’s championship game?

As for teams who remain either on the bubble as at-large bids — Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan State — according to ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi, this week’s conference tournament will be important for their NCAA Tournament resume and odds. The Spartans and Tom Izzo, who are currently a 9-seed according to Lunardi, have a 26-year NCAA Tournament appearance streak on the line heading into Minneapolis.
