Where Is The Chiefs Dolphins Game Being Played

Swifties and fans of Alix Earle, brace yourselves. There’s a possibility that the internet’s favorite football girlfriends could be in the same stadium this weekend.

The NFL playoff schedule has been locked in and this weekend, the Miami Dolphins will be traveling to play the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium.

Here’s how wildcard games work in the NFL playoffs, how to watch the game and our best guess at if Miss Swift will make an appearance to support her beau.

When and where is the Dolphins-Chiefs game?

The game will kick off at 8 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Saturday, Jan. 13. It will only be aired on NBC stations in Kansas City and Miami.

Is the Chiefs-Dolphins game only on Peacock?

Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, will exclusively air the wildcard round matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins. According to the Athletic, the Chiefs-Dolphins game will be the first playoff game in NFL history to air exclusively on a streaming network.

How does a wildcard game work in NFL playoffs?

Four years ago, the NFL changed the way playoffs are formatted to focus on including more teams in playoff games and expanding the first round of the playoffs (wildcard games).

There are four rounds of playoffs after the NFL’s regular season: the wildcard round, divisional round, conference championship games and the Super Bowl.

In case you don’t know, each football team is organized into one of two conferences. Each conference’s 16 teams are then split up into divisions.

For example, the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins are a part of the same conference, the American Football Conference (AFC), but not the same division. The Chiefs became the AFC West champions for the eighth time in a row last week and the Dolphins lost the AFC East title to the Buffalo Bills in Miami on Sunday Night Football this week.

Wild card games give teams that aren’t champions of their division, but still have a great record, a chance at the championships. The Miami Dolphins, for example, had 11 wins and 6 losses in the 2023 regular season, the same record as the AFC East champions, the Bills.

The NFL has 32 teams between its two conferences. By the time the playoffs come, there are only 14 teams left, seven from each conference. Four of those seven teams go on to win games and secure spots in their conference and the losing three teams with the best records in their conference get a shot to continue playing as “wild cards.”

What wild card teams have won Super Bowls?

There are seven NFL teams who have won Super Bowls as wildcards and the last one to do it was a Florida team in 2020.

Here’s a list of the seven NFL teams that turned a wildcard game into a Super Bowl victory:

  • Oakland Raiders (1980)
  • Denver Broncos (1997)
  • Baltimore Ravens (2000)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers (2005)
  • New York Giants (2007)
  • Green Bay Packers (2010)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020)

When and where is Super Bowl 58?

Super Bowl LVIII will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, Feb. 11.

The game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on both CBS and Nickelodeon. The CBS broadcast will also be available to stream via Paramount+.

For the Swifties, will Taylor Swift finally make an appearance at a game with a Florida team?

For Swifties and football fans who don’t shudder at the mere mention of the popstar, there is a strong chance Swift will attend the wildcard game.

Since she and Kelce went public at the Sept. 24 game between the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs, Swift has attended nine of the 15 games this season. For those who theorize the popstar is a bad luck charm, the Chiefs have actually won six of the games she’s been in attendance at.

Why is Swift seeing major backlash for attending NFL games?

The singer has brought more eyes and attention to the NFL, literally attracting Super Bowl-level viewership to the Chiefs’ games.

According to Deadline, NBC’s broadcast of Oct. 1’s game between the Chiefs versus the Jets reportedly averaged 27 million viewers and topped off at around 29 million during the second quarter. This was the most viewership for a Sunday game since the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

“Football is awesome, it turns out,” she said during her Time Magazine “Person of the Year” interview. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”

So why does Swift’s attendance bother some football fans? Fans have complained about the attention Swift has been getting by sports media over the past four months and how often she’s shown during the game while cheering from her suite.

What does Swift say about the hate? She told Time Magazine she’s just there to support Kelce and that’s it.

“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” Swift said. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once. … I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
