Thomson, in McDuffie County, is a quintessential Southern town, a short drive from Augusta, Atlanta and Athens. Founded in 1837 as a railroad depot, Thomson is nicknamed “The Camellia City of the South.” The historic downtown has a number of funky antique stores and restaurants. It hosts an annual fox hunt and a music festival named for Georgia blues legend Blind Willie McTell.
