This is a guide with strategies regarding Zote the Mighty. This is by far the hardest boss in the game, so buckle up folks.

To access this fight, we first need to save Zote in Deepnest. He can be found in a tight maze below the Failed Tramway.

Once we have freed him here, it’s time to head to the Colosseum of Fools. . .

Here we can find Zote in a cage in the Colosseum’s resting area, threatening you and everyone around him. These are to be taken seriously, as they are NOT empty.

The next step is to complete the first trial of the Colosseum, the Trial of the Warrior. After this is done, Zote makes a dramatic entrance, bursting free from his confines and shaking with pure might. The fight of your life has just begun. Good luck.

Boss Information and Strategies:

First off, before you even attempt this fight, it’s highly recommended that you have every single ability, upgrade, charm, nail art, and spell in the game (9 masks, 3 soul vessels, etc.) It is almost mandatory that you upgrade your nail to its maximum potential, the pure nail, at the Nailsmith in the far left of the City of Tears.

First thing to know for this fight, Zote deals (brace yourself). . . .

ZERO MASKS OF DAMAGE

I know, this is shocking, calm yourself. . .

He hits really, really hard since his nail is made of wood so dodging is very key here.

He has also a TON of health (probably around 2200), get ready for a long battle.

His attacks include sprinting towards you while wildly flailing his nail. Zote the Mighty telegraphs this attack when he begins to flail his nail wildly and shout. This attack can be jumped over with really precise timing. Let’s call this attack the “Nail Swing”. His other attack is a leap. Zote telegraphs this attack when he curls up and leaps into the air at random intervals, making him extremely unpredictable and hard to dodge. Let’s call this attack the “Leap” attack.

This attack can be dodged by running in the opposite direction or dashing through with the shade cloak. This is also really difficult to time properly. Zote will also stumble and trip about, this is just to deceive into thinking the fight is easy, keep your guard up. . .

Charm Setups:

Although sharp shadow does help a bit as it increases the length of your shade cloak dash and makes it deal damage equal to your nail’s.

Unbreakable and/or fragile strength also helps for increasing nail damage.

Quick Slash and Shaman Stone can also lead to a faster fight. Due to a faster nail and increased spell damage. You can also use Spell Twister to reduce the soul cost of your spells.

Other than that, there isn’t much that works well. Just pray, you poor, poor soul. . .

Zote Defeated and Some Lore:

Once Zote the Mighty is, by some miracle and planets aligning properly, defeated, we will have completed the Trial of the Warrior. This fight cannot be done again outside of Godhome (besides, why would you want to fight him again? You masochist. . .). Zote mentions in his dream nail dialogue that he wishes that we leave before we are further humiliated. He is objectively right, no questions asked. He also mentions in his dream nail dialogue when caged in the resting area that he is confident he will destroy anyone and anything that opposes him in the Colosseum and that he intended on being captured so he could SLAY. From this, we can gather that the Colloseum is but another step in Zote’s journey to glory in Hallownest.
