Where To Eat In Fargo

Visiting Fargo anytime soon? This is a seriously underrated city for foodies, so plan your trip accordingly because you don’t want to miss out on these delicious eateries, many of which are in the heart of historic downtown Fargo.

We’ve compiled a list of the best restaurants in Fargo to try so you can get the most out of your trip.

Let’s go!

Best Restaurants in Fargo, North Dakota

1. GP’s Greek Kitchen

Address: 2553 Kirsten Ln S Suite 206, Fargo, ND 58104

At the time of writing, GP’s Greek Kitchen has a nearly perfect 4.9-star rating with over 500 reviews on Google, and for good reason. They pride themselves on fast, fresh Greek, but the food is also beautifully presented, generously portioned, and oh so delicious. The service staff is also kind and a joy to speak to.

GP’s serves gyros, pita bowls, Greek salads, and old-fashioned french fries that are perfectly seasoned. Everything feels fresh and authentically Greek.

My favorites are the garden salad topped with tzatziki sauce and the Athenian Gyro on Pita (yes, it comes with that amazing tzatziki sauce, too).

2. Mezzaluna

Address: 309 Roberts St N, Fargo, ND 58102

This high-end spot has a trendy aesthetic and serves up some of the best American cuisines from fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Customer reviews have even mentioned that the chef deserves a Michelin rating!

They have all of the classics like seared walleye, seared salmon, duck breasts, filet mignon, and carbonara. They also have comfort foods like the Mezz Burger, chicken breasts, and beef Merguez meatballs.

Their bar menu is even more comprehensive, covering cocktails, red, rose and white wines, bourbon, beers, bitters, gin, and a seasonal menu for their margaritas.

This is the place to be if you’re interested in trying out luxury foods on a reasonable budget. Most plates here are $25 to $35 – a great deal for the quality and overall dining experience.

3. Würst Bier Hall

Downtown Fargo Address: 630 1st N Fargo, ND 58102

West Fargo Address: 3179 Bluestem Drive, West Fargo, ND 58078

These modern, industrial-style restaurants have some of the best German food and drinks you can find in the states. They focus on beers, German-style sausages, hand-cut french fries, Bavarian pretzels, pierogies, porketta, and schnitzel.

The real star of the show, though, is the Philly cheesesteak and the spaetzle macaroni and cheese, which was mentioned in this Buzzfeed article as the best in the state. It’s so good that they let you order it as a main course and not just a side. It has buffalo cheese bratwurst. I mean, that’s got to be a bucket list food item.

You can find the Würst Bier Hall menu here.

4. Luna Fargo

Address: 1545 S University Dr, Fargo, ND 58103

Luna Fargo is a casual eatery and neighborhood kitchen. It has something for everyone, including a robust vegan-friendly and gluten-free menu. Everything they serve looks (and smells and tastes) incredible. If you want to convince your friends to try more plant-based foods, this is the place to do it because their dishes are so good.

Of course, they also serve meat and dairy products too. They serve farm-fresh cheese, eggs, milk, creams, and more. Good meat-based plates to try are the hearty buttermilk fried chicken, sockeye salmon, lasagna, wild acres chicken, and their signature South 40 Hanger Steak.

The drink menu also has several good options. And they update their lunch and dinner menus every single day, too!

Not sure what to get? Try the cheese table (or meat and cheese table). Oooh, it is so delicious! I love the hand-picked variety of domestic and imported cheeses. It’s a great way to try new foods in an inviting environment.

5. Rhombus Guys

Address: 606 Main Ave, Fargo, ND 58103

This downtown Fargo restaurant has a chic rooftop dining section during the summer that offers great city views. It is one of the best places to visit after a day of enjoying the Fargo scavenger hunt adventure.

Rhombus Guys is a pizza place at heart, though it does have a few other items that are worth a try. You have to grab the T-Rex Pizza while you’re there. It’s won several pizza competitions, and you’ll know exactly why as soon as you bite down into that mozzarella, beef, bacon, sausage, pepperoni, and Canadian bacon masterpiece.

They have 37 types of pizza from The Drunken Pig, to the Winstein, Rockefeller, Tater-tot, Louisiana Saturday Night, Cuban, the Gouda-bye Billy, Angry Dragon, and Puff the Magic Dragon. You can also custom order your own pizza.

Not feeling a pizza? Check out one of their gourmet sandwiches or a fresh salad.

This may be my favorite pizza joint, though I’m not sure if it’s for the great atmosphere and people, or for the actual food. You’ll have to be the judge of which is best!

6. Blackbird Wood Fire Pizza

Address: 206 Broadway N, Fargo, ND 58102

Blackbird Wood Fire Pizza is in the downtown Fargo district, just a block down from the historic Fargo Theatre. This beautiful brick building has ornate historical elements plus a few modern touches too. It is a place where a talented group of people specializes in artisanal wood fire pizzas, local craft beers, salads, and tapas. The wheat used in all of their pizzas comes from nearby North Dakota farms

If you want a wonderful pizza, order the Lumberjack Pizza. You can even watch them bake your pizza in a shiny mosaic wood-fired oven. This nice restaurant may have my all-time favorite pizza. They allow you to design your own three-topping pizza – I get green olives, mushrooms, and peppers.

7. Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant

Address: 5505 28th Ave S, Fargo, ND 58104

When you first step foot into Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant, the first thing you’ll notice is the relaxed atmosphere that is bright, airy, and welcoming. And of course, the smells are unbeatable.

Plaza Azteca has unforgettably good food and service. Most people go for their chimichangas, molcajetes, and margaritas. I have to say that the chips and white sauce plus a lunch fajita burrito is my favorite. With that said, I don’t think anything on their drink or food menus would be anything less than delicious.

8. JL Beers

Address: 4240 32nd Ave S, Fargo, ND 58104

Downtown: 518 1st Ave N, Fargo, ND 58102

West Fargo: 810 13th Ave E, West Fargo, ND 58078

JL Beers has three local restaurants in Fargo, each one nearly flawlessly operated with fast service, absolutely delicious foods, and a full-service bar. They have ever-changing tap beers, bottles, cans, specialty beers, mixed brews, craft cocktails, and beertails.

All of their food is proudly, freshly prepared, and “comes from someone’s backyard.”

While you’re here, be sure to sample the beer cheese dip. It’s my favorite and seems to be a favorite of most other guests as well.

A unique signature move that they do is bring every table a postcard for you to mail to the person of your choice. Sure it’s a brilliant marketing tactic, but who can pass up a gorgeous (and free) postcard, with pre-paid postage, of their beautiful original establishment? They call it “beer mail” and I’ve gotta say, I’m a fan.

You can find the JL Beers menu here.

9. The Shack on Broadway

Address: 3215 Broadway N, Fargo, ND 58102

The Shack on Broadway is one of the best restaurants in Fargo to grab breakfast. They always have freshly brewed coffee on hand and a few specialty drinks in their yummy little coffee shop.

The Shack is a cheap eats place that’s light on price and heavy on healthy portion sizes and delicious food. But be warned – this is one of the most popular restaurants in Fargo in the mornings, so plan your day accordingly.

Doing a breakfast date? Their portion sizes are so generous, you can easily share a plate. There is a very minimal $2 share plate charge. But you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much you get. Call me simple, but I think a lovely light breakfast date is so sweet and intimate. You can enjoy a coffee and a bite together. Then if things go well, you have the rest of the day ahead of you to spend together.

The Shack is open for lunch and dinner too. Try Tanya’s Pulled Pork Sandwich, the chicken fingers, cheesy bread, or my favorite, the steak sandwich.

You can find the Shack on Broadway menu here.

10. Blarney Stone Pub

Address: 1910 9th St E, West Fargo, ND 58078

This restaurant’s moody and elegant setting is so refreshing. Blarney Stone Pub, as you may have guessed from the name, is a traditional Irish pub that serves beer taps, cocktails, and several absolutely delicious dishes.

Some of their signature eats are the Irish egg rolls, corned beef, bangers and mash, stroganoff, and Irish stew. I have to recommend the Reuben because the corned beef on their caraway bread was perfectly made and oh so good.

If you enjoy a well-made Bloody Mary or mimosa, you should order one here. It is a place not to miss after joining a scavenger hunt tour in Frago.

The only downside to this otherwise fabulous place is the lack of vegan options. There are a few, but they aren’t as plentiful as some may desire.

You can find the Blarney Stone Pub menu here.

11. Mango’s Mexican and American Grill

Address: 2901 Main Ave, Fargo, ND 58103

Conveniently located right on Main Avenue, Mango’s Mexican food is sure to delight you with amazing food for even better prices. One of their most popular orders is the all-you-can-eat tacos.

And even though this place also serves American cuisine, it is still an authentic Mexican food spot. That is overwhelmingly clear once you bite down into one of their tacos, burritos, fajitas, delectable refried beans, or the must-try molcajete.

Down for a drink or two? Go for a strawberry margarita.

Oh, and don’t let the fact that it’s connected to a gas station fool you. You’ll be pleasantly surprised when you walk through the doors and try their food.

You can find Mango’s Mexican and American Grill menu here.

12. Beer & Fish Company

Address: 230 Roberts Alley, Fargo, ND 58102

Beer & Fish Company has an open, airy, nautical vibe right in the middle of downtown Fargo. In the summer, you can sit outside on their patio and enjoy the scenery and views.

Inside, you’ll find a large wrap-around, full-service bar with good service, and absolutely delectable drinks. At the bar, you’ll find handcrafted cocktails, “fishtails,” martinis, vodka, gin, tequila, rum, bourbon, brandy, cognac, cordials, scotch, slush drinks, ciders and sours, darks and malts, light and blondes, IPAs and APAs, fine wines (bottled), wines on tap, beer bottles and cans.

Bang bang shrimp, served with bang bang sauce, is one of their best sellers. Personally, I like the Alaskan Cod. It’s fish, but without tasting too strongly of seafood. Theirs is perfectly cooked to be soft, flaky, and flavorful.

Another hot menu item is their grilled shrimp with broccoli and rice.

You can find the Beer & Fish Company menu here.

13. Porter Creek Hardwood Grill

Address: 1555 44th St S, Fargo, ND 58103

Porter Creek Hardwood Grill is a taste of California and the Mediterranean in North Dakota. Here, you’ll find some of the best wood-fired rotisserie cooking, with the rotisserie chicken being the star of the show for most of their dishes. I am crazy about their rotisserie chicken with melted brie!

You’ll find Porter Creek Hardwood Grill in the Clubhouse Hotel and Suites. It is a fine-dining restaurant with much to offer its guests. They place a lot of emphasis on high-quality, delicious foods that are perfectly plated and designed to be an experience.

If you’re visiting Fargo in the winter, this may be one of the best restaurants. It has a cozy heated patio and outdoor bar, so you can enjoy your stay no matter the season.

14. The Boiler Room

Address: 210 Roberts Alley, Fargo, ND 58102

The Boiler Room, located in the Loretta Building, is a hip, modern, subterranean New American cuisine restaurant with a bar. Here you’ll find a stunning terrace to eat upon, delicious foods, and great waitstaff who are friendly, helpful, and very pleasant to converse with.

In the mood for a refreshing salad? Get the Spinach Caprese. The combination of mozzarella pearls, spinach, and juicy, cherry tomatoes is unbelievably scrumptious.

If you happen to go for breakfast, you’ve got to get the Scotch eggs and then convince your friend or partner to share a bite or two of their breakfast casserole.

You can find The Boiler Room menu here.

15. Cork’n Cleaver

Address: 3301 South University Dr, Fargo, ND 58103

Cork’n Cleaver is a casual southwestern-themed steakhouse. They have been serving award-winning chophouse fare since 1970.

People love coming here for date night because of the “old world” romantic vibes that the restaurant creates. Warm fireplaces, string lights, cozy natural elements, and an upscale menu filled with choices really set the mood. Plus, the small tables create intimate and private seating that you’re sure to enjoy and appreciate on your next night out.

Make sure you try their salad bar because they have so many fresh ingredients to offer. They also have a full-service bar, gorgeous outdoor seating, a fire pit, and a juicy top sirloin. If you go, you have to try at least one of those items!

You can find the Cork’n Cleaver menu here.

16. 46 North Pints & Provisions

46 North Pints & Provisions
46 North Pints & Provisions / Facebook

Address: 635 2nd Ave N, Fargo, ND 58102

This bar and eatery is a cool gastropub fare in Roberts Commons in downtown Fargo. It is the spot not to miss check out and book tours in Fargo.

As soon as you walk up to the restaurant, before you even walk in, you’ll notice the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. You have the opportunity to sit indoors or outdoors on the patio.

As you walk into 46 North, you’ll smell the incredible aroma of their kitchen, which produces some of the best food in Fargo. They offer several great food choices, including soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken, pastas, premier meat cuts, fish, perfectly prepared vegetables, and more.

A surprising favorite is the grilled cheese sandwiches, made of Swiss, cheddar, parmesan, and gouda cheeses, plus tomatoes and sauteed onions on perfectly toasted wheat bread.

You can also find excellent wagyu striploin, pulled pork, yuca fries, spicy shrimp, wings, and this amazing acorn squash risotto that comes with arborio rice, squash puree, kohlrabi, gravy, and an apple glaze that is cooked perfectly.

You can find the 46 North Pints & Provisions menus here.

17. Doolittles Woodfire Grill

Address: 2112 25th St SW, Fargo, ND 58103

Doolittles Woodfire Grill is an American eatery conveniently located near Highway 52 and 25th Street in Fargo. It primarily focuses on rotisserie grilled meats, fine wines, and creating a fine-dining experience. I absolutely love the forest green ceramic tiled fireplace in the corner of the restaurant; it really adds to the atmosphere in a great way.

If you’re visiting in the warm summer months, the patio is a nice place to hang out, especially when the little wood fire is burning. Inside, Doolittles Woodfire Grill has beautiful vaulted ceilings, wall murals, cozy seating arrangements, and beautifully plated (and curated) meals. The wood-fired grill creates such a savory and mouthwatering aroma, too; it’s tough to be patient while waiting for your food here!

The chicken wild rice soup pairs perfectly with a tuna melt. The wood-fired butter chicken is always a hit, as is the hangar steak. And if you’re looking for the perfect dessert menu, then Doolittles Woodfire Grill has you covered. Choose from a Mudslide Pie, Molten Nirvana, Lemon Custard Cake, or Carrot Cake.

In a hurry? Get carryout or takeout. Choose from rotisserie buffalo wings, parmesan artichoke dip, Cobb salad, the house salad, Caesar salad, Italian bread, or their yummy chicken wild rice soup.

You can find the Doolittles Woodfire Grill menu here.

18. Kroll’s Diner

Address: 1033 45th St S, Fargo, ND 58103

Kroll’s Diner is a fast-casual joint that offers German foods in an American diner. It has the fun theme of being a 50s-style German-American restaurant.

They serve all meals from breakfast to lunch, dinner, and dessert. Breakfast is served all day, and freshly brewed coffee is always ready and waiting for you.

This may be my favorite restaurant of all mentioned today because it has the classic chicken and dumplings soup. That is my go-to comfort food, and it is difficult to find a place that knows how to make dumplings with the right taste and texture. Kroll’s Diner has perfected the art of creamy chicken dumpling soup.

Looking for heat? Get the cajun skillet, it packs a serious punch of flavor and spice all in one. Or want a bite of German specialty meals? Try a cabbage roll, Breakfast Fleischkuechle, the German skillet, German omelet, or the Knoephla, sausage, and sauerkraut.

Need something family-friendly? They offer Burgerfest for $39, which includes five burgers, a family-sized scoop of fries, five soda drinks, and all the toppings you want for your burgers. They also have Fleischfest, also $39, which contains four fleischkuele, four mashed potatoes, four bowls of the hearty knoephla soup, and four soda drinks.

You can find the Kroll’s Diner menu here.

19. Spitfire Bar & Grill

Address: 1660 13th Ave E, West Fargo, ND 58078

Spitfire Bar & Grill is an American cuisine restaurant that creates wood-grilled meats, and barbecues and runs a full-service bar. You’ve gotta try their wood-fired lobster tail or chicken pesto spinach flatbread (my favorite).

Spitfire Bar & Grill has been nationally awarded and earned first place in the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue for Chicken.

In 2021, they also earned the following titles and awards:

  • #1 Best West Fargo Restaurant 2021
  • #2 Best Ribs Fargo-Moorhead 2021
  • #2 Best Steakhouse Fargo-Moorhead 2021

As you can tell, their ribs and chicken are impeccably made and worth ordering. Be sure to check them out!

You can find the Spitfire Bar & Grill menu here.

20. Vinyl Taco

Address: 520 1st Ave N, Fargo, ND 58102

Vinyl Taco serves fresh Mexican street food from the comforts of a hip and vibrant music-centered restaurant.

Something I especially love about this restaurant is their commitment to freshness. Their tortillas are made fresh and in-house every day. This makes all the difference and is why their dishes taste so darn good.

Fish tacos, vegetarian tacos, buffalo chicken tacos, pork belly tacos, steak fajitas, and the tacos molcajete are crowd favorites. I have to recommend the steak fajita fiesta specialty bowl because their steaks are cooked to perfection and then smothered in some of the best ever blanco crema. Of course the rice, black beans, chillies, and onions are ridiculously fresh and delicious.

21. The Toasted Frog

Address: 305 Broadway N, Fargo, ND 58102

Yay, another convenient downtown restaurant right on Broadway!

If you’re a fool for fried pickles like I am, you’ve gotta stop here! It’s rare for me to find a restaurant that fries them the way I like but The Toasted Frog has this one mastered! The breading sticks to the pickles perfectly, the ratio is spot-on, and they stay nice and crisp (but never burned) for quite a while, even as they start to cool off.

The Toasted Frog is known for its laid back atmosphere, creative foods, and friendly staff. I especially love the four tables off to the side in the alleyway. They have sweet, twinkly lights strung over the tables. You’re sure to catch a cool breeze and a good conversation here.

Inside, the restaurant is intimate and dark, in the best way possible. It feels a bit like a modern-day speakeasy. If you like a unique salad, try the arugula or beet salad. Both come with goat cheese and your pick of dijon, balsamic vinaigrette, ranch, or blue cheese. You can add grilled chicken or steak to the salad too if you’d like.

Oh, and of course, I have to mention their steak frites. They are so good, you’ll probably be a little sad when your plate is inevitably empty and you’re beyond full.

You can find the Toasted Frog Menu here.

22. Lucky’s 13 Pub

Address: 4301 17th Avenue South, Fargo, ND 58103

Lucky’s is a self-proclaimed neighborhood favorite bar, and with their frequent community events like bingo, golf, private events hosting, and catering, it seems to be earned. Their free parking also feels like a nice gift to the neighborhood too.

They have a massive menu that is sure to have something for every taste and diet. From classic hand-carved sandwiches to soups, salads, burgers, a variety of appetizers, and others, you’ll find something that speaks to you and is filling and satisfying.

Let’s talk about their starter’s menu – it’s so good and I’m tempted to exclusively order off that! They have chicken thighs, boneless chicken, “frickles” (fried dill pickles), french fry dippers, pizza rolls, walleye fingers, cheese curds (these are AMAZING), big pretzels, bull bites (a cajun beef tenderloin), L13 Tots (loaded tater tots with bacon, sour cream, green onions, and cheese), tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. Hint: order the nachos with smoked brisket!

You can find Lucky’s 13 Pub menu here.

23. Paradiso Mexican Restaurant

Address: 801 38th St S, Fargo, ND 58103

Right off the bat, I have to say how much I love a festive and colorful restaurant like Paradiso. They have hand-painted vibrant artwork all over the interior and exterior of their building.

While I appreciate a “modern” black-and-white industrial restaurant, I adore the creativity and uniqueness that this style brings. The atmosphere is exuberant. Paradiso is probably one of the most family-friendly restaurants on this list too.

They are casual, relaxed, and offer a good kid’s menu. They even have frosty drinks for the kids. How cute is that?! On a nice day, you’ll want to sit outside on the patio where you can enjoy the fresh air and their beautiful water fountain.

Now for the food: they serve traditional authentic Mexican foods like tacos, chile relleno, chalupas, tamales, flautas, taco salads, margarita chicken flatbread, seafood enchiladas, mesquite grilled chicken, and more. I had to try the fried ice cream, and I was taken aback by how much I liked it.
