Where To Find Opossum Rdr2

Red Dead Redemption 2’s Master Hunter 9 Challenge tasks you to “kill an Opossum playing possum.” Good news: Opossums tend to play possum a lot. Bad news: It’s hard to find Opossums. Best news: This guide will show you exactly how to find an Opossum.

You can find Opossums northwest of Strawberry, in an area called Big Valley. (It’s a great place to do a lot of things, like hunting cougars, shooting fish and gathering plants to complete Herbalist Challenges, too.)

In the map below, we’ve circled the location where we found one Opossum. They tend to spawn in the area between the Trapper at the western edge of the map (straight west from our circle), the road that runs north-south through the valley and the woods that spread out into to the east and north — in other words, east, west and north of the circle, in about the area you see below.

We can’t say with certainty that Opossums only show up at night, but that’s when we found them. Also that’s when they’re active here in the real world, according to the definition in Webster’s New World Dictionary, which is where we totally looked that fact up. Feel free to plop down a camp nearby and rest until the evening is what we’re saying.

The best way to hunt Opossums is to get off of your horse, entirely because it’s too easy to accidentally run over an Opossum and wind up screaming “OH C’MON!” at your TV (or so we’ve heard). Keep looking for animals, clicking the left and right analog sticks to identify tracks with Eagle Eye (bonus: animal tracks are more pronounced at night), and aiming at everything you see while you walk around. Most any weapon will do just fine, but we prefer the critter-friendly (unfriendly?) Varmint Rifle.

If you’re lucky like we were below, you’ll find an Opossum already playing dead. Then it’s just a matter of doing the (admittedly uncomfortable) deed. If you’re not, just chase it. It’ll soon lie down for you. Either way, it’ll be for real dead soon.
