Where To Find Orthon Bg3

Before entering the Thorm Mausoleum in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3, you will be stopped by the devil, Raphael. Raphael will tell you that inside the Mausoleum, there is an old enemy, called the Orthon, of his that you need to defeat. The devil doesn’t offer much more information other than that. However, if you have Astarion in your party, Raphael says that he will give you details on the runic carvings on Astarion’s back.

This puts you in a sticky spot, as you might not want to help Raphael, but you also want to give Astarion some answers. In this guide, I will go over what happens if you side with or against Raphael and how to go about the conflict with the Orthon in BG3.

Siding with Raphael or the Orthon in BG3

You will be able to find the Orthon inside the Gauntlet of Shar, where he’s waiting alongside around a dozen of his closest minions. You will be led into the Orthon’s room by a Displacer Beast and immediately engage in dialogue with the large enemy. You find out that the Orthon, whose actual name is Yurgir, is contractually tied to Raphael in BG3.

He will be quite hostile when you first enter the room, but there are dialogue options that let you convince Yurgir to work with you so both of you can go against Raphael. This gives you a combat option to summon Yurgir when you’re in a tough situation.

On the other hand, you can also attack Yurgir immediately upon entering his room. This is what I did, as I wanted to help Astarion. It might not have been the wisest choice, though, as the fight with Yurgir is extremely difficult. There are over a dozen enemies to fight, and they all have high ground advantage on your whole party. Moreover, Yurgir can go invisible after every turn, making him difficult to attack.

If you don’t want to go either of those routes, there is also a third option. You can actually make Yurgir defeat himself, which requires three separate persuasion checks. I only recommend this route if you have a character proficient in persuasion. You need to have that character lead the way and speak to Yurgir when entering his room.

If you succeed in those checks, Yurgir will defeat himself, allowing you to satisfy Raphael while not having to engage in a massive fight. You will also get Astarion the answers he needs about his back carvings.

I would likely choose the third option, persuading Yurgir to defeat himself, but that’s only because my main character is a high Charisma Paladin.
