6. Park City, Utah
If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, one of the best places to visit in the U.S. in December is Park City, Utah.
This famous ski town hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002. You can actually still visit the Utah Olympic Park and marvel at the athletes’ training there or you can even take a ride down the bobsled track yourself, if you dare!
A ski trip to Park City can be pricey, so to make it more palatable, try looking at a multi-resort season pass, like the Ikon Pass (valid at Deer Valley —skiers only) or the Epic Pass (good at Park City Mountain Resort, the largest ski resort in North America).
Either way, these passes make Park City some of the most affordable skiing options in Utah.
December is a great time to visit Park City.There are lots of holiday festivities—from Snowfest at Park City Mountain—where Santa comes to town via ski lift, to an annual torchlight parade down the mountain, and even fireworks for New Year’s Eve.

7. Death Valley National Park
Death Valley is one of the best national parks in the United States to visit during December. (It also makes a great destination in spring though.)
Well known as the “hottest place on Earth”, the world record for the highest air temperature (a scorching 134°F!) was recorded at aptly named Furnace Creek in Death Valley.
During the summer, temperatures in the park frequently top 120°F and don’t drop below the mid-90s overnight.
During December, the weather tends to be much more pleasant, with average highs in the mid-60s and average lows in the upper-30s at the lower elevations.
Death Valley features an enormous range of elevation, from 282 feet below sea level at Badwater Basin to over 11,000 feet at Telescope Peak, the tallest point in the park.
At higher elevations, temperatures are colder and snow is not uncommon in December.

9. Arches National Park, Utah
Head directly to Arches National Park in Utah! Winter is divine here, mainly because the crowds of summer, spring, and fall are long gone.
It’s the perfect time, to see the Mighty 5 (Bryce, Arches, Zion, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef National Parks).When visiting Arches National Park in December, you will probably have the place all to yourself, except for the week in between Christmas and New Year’s Day. You’ll also love that many of the hiking trails in Arches National Park remain open all year long, including popular spots like Delicate Arch and Devil’s Garden. Also, because of reduced light pollution from guests, you’ll be able to enjoy fabulous stargazing spots like Balanced Rock Picnic Area, The Windows, the Garden of Eden Viewpoint, and Panorama Point.However, with daily highs in the 40s (F) and daily lows in the 20s (F), snow can accumulate quickly on the ground. Visiting Orlando in December means enjoying mostly clear skies, low humidity and cooler weather.

Temperatures in December range from a high of 80 F to a low of 70 F, so it’s almost never too hot or cold for anyone’s liking.
There are lots of great things to do in Oahu, including sightseeing, relaxing, and hiking. You can also enjoy water sports like jet skiing, paddle boarding, snorkeling, surfing, and more.

California in December is gorgeous! It’s a wonderful month to plan a trip to Palm Springs.
While there are lots of things to do in Palm Springs year round, the pleasant weather and holiday happenings make December an especially lovely time to visit this gateway to the California desert.

23. Coastal Mississippi
While every month of the year is a wonderful time to visit, December in Coastal Mississippi is particularly special. Gulfport Harbor Lights Festival is a phenomenal holiday light show featuring over 1.5 million lights, enjoyed by walking or on a heated trolley ride.
Jones Park is also taken over by Santa’s Village (bring letters for Santa), carnival rides and holiday treats, and plenty of elfie selfie stations for holiday photos.
The festival is open from late November through December 31 and was highlighted in Lifetime’s Christmas in Mississippi holiday movie.All Coastal Mississippi communities demonstrate their holiday spirit with festive events, including Christmas on the Water Boat Parade (Biloxi), Snowflakes in the Bay (Bay St Louis), and Downtown for the Holidays (Pascagoula). Washington DC is one of the most festive places to visit in December and many of the best holiday activities in DC are absolutely free.
The month kicks off with the unveiling of the Capitol Christmas Tree and the White House Christmas Tree which are lit nightly throughout the month.
At the U.S. Botanical Garden, visitors enjoy an elaborate model train display that honors sites across the country. The garden is also decorated with beautiful poinsettias and recreations of famous DC monuments and memorials, all created from natural elements.

This US territory is located in the Caribbean and enjoys balmy tropical temperatures year-round. December average temperatures are in the mid-eighties for the daily highs and mid-seventies for the daily lows.
Puerto Rico’s historical center, Old San Juan, is a delight to explore and is extremely walkable.

This underrated state in New England is home to charming small towns, country roads, sapphire lakes, and forested mountains.Portsmouth is a small, funky seaside city in New Hampshire that goes all out in December. The Candelight Stroll takes place all month long at the Strawbery Banke Museum on Saturdays and Sunday evenings.
This “living museum” recreates one of the oldest neighborhoods in New England, complete with restored historic homes and costumed role-playing guides. The Candlelight Stroll brings glowing lanterns, 19th century-style Christmas decorations, and even ice skating performances!
