Hell’s Paradise Basics
Hell’s Paradise is an intense and bloody anime series about a condemned ninja assassin. It takes place during Japan’s feudal Edo period.
At the beginning of the series, Gabimaru the Hollow (because he’s supposedly “empty” inside) is given a quest. If he can find the Elixir of Life, he will be pardoned for his many crimes.
His companion for this journey is Sagiri, an executioner. Sagiri is apparently the only person capable of executing Gabimaru if he should fail to return with the elixir. But she’s also an impressive partner to have on his quest.
In addition, other criminals are also searching for the same thing as Gabimaru. Naturally, these rivals must be defeated.
The basic story sounds simple, but Hell’s Paradise is also a deep, dark, and psychological tale.
Hell’s Paradise Release Dates
Yuji Kaku created the original manga that the anime series is based upon. From 2018 to 2021, the manga appeared online on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website.
The anime started in April 2023, with a 13-episode season 1. It was still ongoing at the time that I wrote this. According to reports, the first season should end on June 24.
The series has the Japanese title Jigokuraku, and is sometimes named as Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. The series is rated TV-MA in the United States.

If you’re in the U.S., you will need a good VPN, such as NordVPN, if you want to watch. Here’s how to do it:
How to Watch Hell’s Paradise Anywhere in the World
This method works on both desktop PCs and mobile phones or tablets.
- Purchase (or start a free trial) of a VPN. I can confirm that NordVPN works for this purpose.
- In the settings, choose Japan as your location.
- Fire up the VPN and wait for it to do its magic
- Once you’re connected, navigate to Netflix (browser or app)
- Search “Hell’s Paradise” in the Netflix search bar and you should see the anime pop up.
Enjoy! Please note that if your Netflix library doesn’t update to reflect the country you selected in your VPN, you may have to clear the Netflix cache first and try again.
To do this on mobile, go to settings -> apps -> Netflix -> clear cache. To do this on PC, you have to clear the cache in your web browser.
I’ve had no trouble using this method and I still use NordVPN to watch anime from various Netflix country libraries daily.
