What is Sister Wives about?

Sister Wives is an unscripted series that explores the life of Kody Brown, his four wives, and their 18 children as they navigate their unconventional family structure. They are members of a Mormon fundamentalist group known as the Apostolic United Brethren and practice polygamy.

Although Kody is legally married to one wife, Robyn, he considers himself “spiritually” married to all four. While they once kept their plural marriage lifestyle somewhat concealed, the series, which premiered in 2010, has allowed them to be more open about their chosen way of life.

Meet the Sister Wives cast

  • Kody: The family patriarch, legally married to Robyn and “spiritually married” to Meri, Janelle, and Christine.
  • Meri: Kody’s first wife and Leon’s mother. She was legally married to Kody until 2014 when they dissolved their legal marriage so Kody could marry Robyn and adopt her children.
  • Janelle: Kody’s second wife and mom to Logan, Madison, Hunter, Garrison, Gabriel, and Savanah. She wasn’t raised in a polygamous household but entered into a polygamous marriage shortly before marrying Kody.
  • Christine: Formerly Kody’s third wife (left Kody in 2021) and mother to Aspyn, Mykelti, Paedon, Gwendlyn, Ysabel, and Truely.
  • Robyn: Kody’s fourth wife, married spiritually in the first season and legally in 2014. She has kids from a previous marriage (Dayton, Aurora, and Breanna) and two with Kody (Solomon and Ariella).

Are the Sister Wives still together?

The family’s leader, Kody Brown, is currently only in a relationship with one of the original four sister wives, Robyn Brown. Christine Brown was the first sister wife to leave, revealing her separation from Kody in November 2021.
