Comic book fans and movie buffs have long debated: Marvel or DC? Personal preferences set aside, I cannot deny that the filming locations of DC movies are always extraordinary. Take the newest Batman for an example, and you get why I was super excited to explore all the film sets from the upcoming Aquaman sequel.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will premiere this year in December on the big screens, featuring world-renowned actors like Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman. Therefore, I believe all of you fans are eager to rush to the cinemas! But until then, let’s look at the stunning Aquaman 2 filming locations!

Filming Locations in the UK
Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK
Honestly, what great movie did not rise from Leavesden? Those who follow my blog might have noticed I have covered this legendary studio a few times thus far. After all, Leavesden is a home studio to many DC movies, such as Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Batman (2022). It is also the birthplace ofBarbie and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning!
The studio is a must-visit place if you are in London! Moreover, there are many walking tours you can choose from. As a die-hard fan of Harry Potter, I am only counting the days until I can visit the beyond-epic Harry Potter Tour!
Saunton Sands Beach, Devon
Next on my list of Aquaman 2 Filming Locations is a majestic place in Devon, UK. This beautiful beach is well-known for its popularity among surfing enthusiasts. Furthermore, the beach boasts recognizable long waves ideal for various water sports. It was only fitting that a movie, such as this one, would have been filmed here!
An interesting fact is that this remarkable place has already been on the big screens. The beach appeared in none other than the 1946 Powell and Pressburger film “A Matter of Life and Death.” Filming of Aquaman 2 took place here In September of 2021.

Halona Beach Cove, Oahu, Hawaii

After most of the scenes were already shot in the UK, the production moved to Hawaii in December, 2021, for on-location shooting. To be more precise, the filming took place at Halona Beach Cove, also known as Eternity Beach. This Hawaiian gem gained fame after its appearance in the 1953 film “From Here to Eternity,” where the iconic beach kiss scene comes from.
While it may not be the largest or most well-known beach in Hawaii, its cinematic history and natural beauty make it a popular destination. However, you should be cautious when entering the water due to its potentially strong currents. Perhaps our friend Aquaman is training with his Trident.
Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles, the city of movies and movie stars- there is no surprise that they filmed Aquaman here. From the Hollywood Hills to the beaches of LA, there is an abundance of places to visit in this extraordinary city. However, if you’re looking for an unforgettable experience, I recommend taking a 2-hour road trip to San Diego.
Namely, San Diego is a city where the biggest comic-con takes place. Whether you are a hard-core fan or the newest to the DC Family, this type of experience everyone should have at least once in their lifetime.
Malibu, California
Malibu is a type of place where the line between being a mermaid and human is blurred. Here, people are almost as if born from water. At first, it may sound absurd, but once you visit Malibu Beach, everything will fall into place. Most people here are excellent surfers who make riding waves look as easy as walking on both feet.
If you, too, want to experience a bit of Malibu magic, you have many options for surfing lessons.A little fun fact is that the filming of Aquaman 2 was wrapped here. The crew celebrated the end of shooting with a hilarious post of Momoa and Wilson with a shower head.
Jersey City, New Jersey
I must admit, I was a bit surprised when I found out the sequel was filmed here. This only makes me eager to rush the first chance I get to the cinemas and explore the scenes in this cool city. I tried to dig up what scenes might have been shot here, but the production did not leave much for disclosure.
Moving on to the city, Jersey City was a prominent immigration port during the 19th and early 20th centuries. However, its most notable feature is the breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline.
What part of Italy was Aquaman filmed in?

The initial scenes of the superhero movie Aquaman, released in 2018, were shot on the beautiful Italian island of Sicily. The location served as an inspiration for the movie makers, particularly Scopello, a coastal town famous for its stunning coastline and towering rock formations.
Additionally, in the scene where Mera is eating roses, you can catch a glimpse of the charming town in the backdrop. Sadly, Italy is not on the list of Aquaman 2 filming locations.
Where were the Aquaman beach scenes filmed?
The filming of Aquaman beach scenes took place on location in Main Beach, Coomera, Southport, North Stradbroke Island, and Hastings Point.
However, the production team did not shoot most scenes in the water but instead used the technique of “dry for wet” to create the desired scenes. Namely, dry for wet is a film technique used to simulate an underwater scene by employing smoke, colored filters, and lighting effects on a dry set.
Is Aquaman 2 part of the DCU?
The short answer is yes, Aquaman 2 is part of the DCU (DC Universe). Warner Bros. had been planning to unite various DC Comics superheroes in movies since 2002. At that time, Wolfgang Petersen was supposed to direct a crossover of the Superman and Batman film franchises.
In 2008, a planned Justice League movie was put on hold and initial plans for a shared universe were scrapped. However, Warner Bros. eventually established a shared universe in 2013.
Will Aquaman 2 be the last DCEU movie?
It has been confirmed that the upcoming Aquaman sequel, titled “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” will serve as the final DC Extended Universe movie to be released before DC Studios’ planned reboot.
This means that the movie will mark the end of the previous DC regime. This signifies the launch of producer Peter Safran and director James Gunn’s new DC Universe.
