From Jonesboro to Marietta – Georgia is the Real Star
While IMDB mentions Atlanta as one of the shooting locations, Netflix clarifies that the production did not film in Atlanta proper. Most scenes, including those at Harpy’s and Will’s house, were actually shot in Jonesboro, a small town with a population of only 4,755.

To capture the essence of the drag club scenes, the filmmakers chose Southern Comfort Restaurant and Lounge, a western dance bar located in Conley, with a population of 6,228. It’s here that Will and her friends watch astonishing Dolly Parton impersonators.
For the pageant scenes, the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta, a city with a population of 61,048, was the perfect choice. And when it came to the school scenes, Marietta Middle and High Schools provided the ideal backdrop.
Covington and Conyers: The Perfect Stand-ins
Covington, a town with a population of 14,044, stepped in as the substitute for the town square. You’ll recognize the familiar surroundings when watching the movie.

In the pool scenes, the town of Conyers, with a population of 16,015, makes an appearance. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time both Covington and Conyers have opened their doors to a film related to Dolly Parton. In 2015, the TV movie “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” was also filmed in these towns, despite being set in the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains where Dolly grew up.
Jennifer Aniston’s Incredibly Authentic Southern Accent
Jennifer Aniston not only sold the idea for Dumplin’ to Netflix but also co-produced the adaptation. Her portrayal of Rosie, complete with a Southern accent, has received rave reviews. To perfect her accent, Jennifer worked closely with a dialect coach. And the ultimate seal of approval? It came from none other than Dolly Parton herself!
In an interview with ET, Dolly shared her thoughts on Jennifer’s accent: “I thought she did great, and I told her that… I was really impressed, and I knew she worried about it… Your accent is great, you did a great job,” Dolly reassured Jennifer.
