Where Was Fast And Furious 9 Filmed

The ninth instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise roared into UK cinema’s in 2021.

FF9 saw the return of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and co as they once again joined forces to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom and Letty’s long lost brother, Jakob (John Cena).

With a slighter later release date than originally planned (the film was due to be released in 2020, but was delayed due to the pandemic), the non-stop action hurtled around the globe — from London to Tokyo and from Central America to Edinburgh.

In September 2019 Fast & Furious 9 spent 19 days filming in 11 different areas of Edinburgh city centre. Dare devil stunts and car chases were filmed in iconic areas of the city including the following: Waterloo Place, which sits at the foot of Calton Hill at the east end of Princes Street. Designed in the mid-19th century to give a new and grand entrance to the city, Corinthian columns decorate many of the buildings in this street.

With its elegant Georgian architecture and wide pavements, George Street is an attractive part of the city. Today a mecca for shopping and dining out, in the 1800’s the street was largely associated with banking, which has left a legacy on many of the buildings – most notably the large classical columns on The Dome, which was built in 1845 as the head office of the Commercial Bank.

Created in 1856 as a link from the High Street to Waverley Station, Cockburn Street is a popular Edinburgh filming location, being used for scenes in the Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Trainspotting 2 (2017).

With its gentle curve and colourful shopfronts, Victoria Street in the Old Town has to be one of the most photographed locations in the city. Built between 1829-34 as part of a series of improving access around the city, today it is home to an eclectic array of delightful independent shops.

One of the most well-known and most visited streets in Edinburgh, the historic Royal Mile runs through the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, connecting Edinburgh Castle with the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
