Stardust is a critically-acclaimed film with a literal star-studded cast. And even though Stardust is a fantasy movie set in faraway lands like Stormhold with lots of CGI enhancements, most of the Stardust filming locations are actually real! Lots of fans want to know, where was Stardust filmed?
Stardust (2007) is a film based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name. A young man named Tristan, who lives in a town called Wall, travels to the realm of the fairies to find a fallen star as a gift for his beloved. Instead of finding a star, he instead finds himself mixed up in a witch seeking eternal youth, selfish princes fighting for a throne and pirates navigating a flying ship.

It’s just a wonderful, adventurous, fantasy movie and a great family film. There are Stardust filming locations all over England and Scotland as well as some locations in Iceland and Wales. So, where was Stardust filmed? Let’s find out!
Where Was Stardust Filmed in Scotland and England?
Stardust Filming Locations in Scotland
1. Professor’s Cottage, Heights of Kinlochewe
After the bad witch Lamia (played by Michelle Pfieffer) eats the last portion of a star’s heart to turn beautiful, she sets out to capture and kill the latest fallen star. She begins her quest outside of a cottage where she turns a man into a goat so he can pull her cart.
This was an abandoned cottage at the time, located in the Heights of Kinlochewe. Now, it’s been completely renovated and is unrecognisable to how it looked during its 15-minutes of fame as one of the Stardust locations. But the house (named the Professor’s Cottage) is a holiday let that you can stay in, so swings and roundabouts.
2. The Fairy Glen, Isle of Skye
The second of the Stardust film locations in Scotland is The Fairy Glen near the village of Uig in the Isle of Skye. Lamia rides into the glen and meets up with Ditchwater Sal and her travelling caravan.
I love this Stardust Skye location because I’ve visited it several times during my month working at a hostel there! The Fairy Glen is a mythical landscape covered in small textured conical hills. It’s honestly straight out of a fairytale which makes it a perfect Stardust filming location.

3. Quiraing, Isle of Skye
There aren’t any Stardust Portree locations (though people think there are!), but the Quiraing is pretty damn close. It’s a landslip/hill on the Trotternish Ridge in the Isle of Skye and features in Stardust a couple of times as a backdrop. One of the scenes features Lamia as she casts her ruins on top of the Quiraing to find out where to search for the fallen star next.
Much later in the film, Tristan and Yvaine (played by Charlie Cox and Claire Danes respectively) walk on the Quiraing Circuit after they depart Captain Shakespeare’s ship. They are closely followed by Prince Septimus on horseback.
4. Loch Coruisk, Isle of Skye
The last Stardust filming location in Scotland, Loch Coruisk. It’s simply used as an epically stunning landscape that Captain Shakespeare (played by Robert De Niro) flies over. If you want to know the specific scene, it’s just after Tristan and Yvaine are reintroduced to the crew in their new fine clothes. Oh, and also the scene where he almost steers his ship (and crew) into the lake! Forgot about that bit…
Stardust Filming Locations in England
5. Stowe School, Buckingham

The first Stardust filming location is at a private, independent school called Stowe School in Buckingham. It looks more like a grand museum or opera house than a school! But that makes sense because the school stands in for a Victorian-era observatory, specifically the Royal Academy of Science in London. This is the director, Matthew Vaughn’s old school.
6. Castle Combe, Wiltshire
And the second Stardust film location in England is perhaps one of the prettiest and most popular! The village of Wall is largely set in Castle Combe in Wiltshire. Stardust shot most of the street scenes, including Tristan’s shop location, here.
The Castle Combe Stardust scenes have definitely brought more tourists to this particular town in the Cotswolds. The cobbled streets, crooked roofs and well-attended flower beds sure are pretty.
7. Ashridge Estate, Little Gaddesden, Hertfordshire
I believe the very lengthy “wall” which divides Wall and Stormhold must be partly CGI, at least. However, the production team did build a wall with a gaping hole in it somewhere on the Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire. I doubt it’s still there now though…
8. Arlington Row, Bibury, Cirencester, Gloucestershire
Castle Combe isn’t the only town that stood in for the village of Wall. Nope, the street where Tristan lives is actually based in Bibury, Cirencester. The exact street is Arlington Row. So, if you want to know where was Stardust filmed, specifically the village of Wall, it’s these two places.
I think the exterior of Tristan’s house might possibly be 3 Arlington Row. Bibury and Castle Combe are only about an hours drive apart so you could potentially visit both Stardust movie locations in one day!
9. Elveden Hall, Suffolk
The Kingdom of Stormhold has a very odd way of selecting the heir to the throne. When the King is on his deathbed, he reminds his (remaining) four sons that one must kill the others in order to ascend the throne, as per tradition. But of course, he tells his sons he is breaking with tradition and instead they must search for the royal ruby.
He lives in a rather decadent, candlelit palace on top of a very tall mountain. The interior of this palace is Elveden Hall in Suffolk. It’s a large, stately home with some Moorish and East Asian design influences. Unfortunately, I believe it’s a privately-owned estate and closed to the public. But if you recognise the interior from a different film, it was also featured in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001).
10. St Sophia’s Cathedral, Moscow Road, Bayswater, London
After the King croaks, the remaining three Princes (and the Bishop) share a toast over his coffin. And since one of the princes drinks poison, three became two.
This wake is set inside St Sophia’s Cathedral in London. Again, the Greek Orthodox church is very lavishly embellished (just like the palace) with an azure and gold ceiling and multicoloured mosaic floor.
11. Black Park, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire
Since Tristan is the one that manages to capture the fallen star (her name is Yvaine, don’t you know), he decides to walk her across Stormhold and back to Wall to present her to Victoria.
While on this journey, they walk through a forest. In real life, this forest is Black Park Country Park. This park has featured on film heaps because it’s mere minutes (literally) away from Pinewood Studios. Which, not coincidentally, is where Stardust shot it’s studio scenes.
12. Britons Arms Coffee House, 6 Elm Hill, Norwich

To trap Yvaine, Lamia conjures up an Inn so Yvaine and her unicorn will want to seek shelter there. The Inn is apparently called The Slaughtered Prince, though I’m sure that’s a retrospective nickname considering what happens there…
Well, Stardust shot The Slaughtered Prince scenes in an old pub called Britons Arms Coffee House on 6 Elm Hill in Norwich. Fun fact: there is now artwork on the side of the house which pictures a slaughtered prince.
13. Keeley Hire Warehouse, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire
Where was Stardust filmed really?! Inside studios and prop warehouses, apparently! Yep, why build a ransacked old market piled high with junk when there are movie prop warehouses that have that aesthetic already?!
Stardust shot the Ferdy the Fence scenes (like when he barters with Captain Shakespeare over the price of lightning, for example) in Keeley Hire’s Warehouse in Hertfordshire. Lamia the witch also drops by Ferdy’s place for the latest gossip.
14. Elm Hill, Norwich
Though we see Stormhold Market briefly in other parts of the film, it’s most prominent towards the end of the film after Tristan and Yvaine hitch a ride with Ditchwater Sal’s travelling caravan.
Stardust shot some of the heavily set-dressed market scenes on Elm Hill in Norwich. Yep, the same Elm Hill where they shot The Slaughtered Prince pub scenes!
Stardust Filming Locations Elsewhere
15. Llyn y Fan Fach, Carmarthenshire, Wales
Just one of the Stardust filming locations is in Wales. Early on in the movie when Tristan is forcing Yvaine to walk all day, there is a beautiful sweeping shot of the pair walking along a footpath on top of an isolated mountain.
This is in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. Specifically, the worn-down mountain path on Black Mountain above the Llyn y Fan Fach lake.
16. Stokksnes, Stokksnesvegur, Iceland
I think fans of Stardust are under the impression that there is more than one Stardust Iceland filming location. But nope! It’s just the one. The Stardust beach is Stokksnes near Höfn with Vestrahorn Mountain in the background. It’s one of those mystical black sand beaches surrounded by jagged mountains, though I think most of the boulder-sized ice blocks were special effects.
In Stardust, this is where Prince Septimus demands to see the Soothsayer. He orders him to re-cast his runes and foretell where he needs to search for the royal ruby next.
So, where was Stardust filmed? Hopefully, now you’ll be able to answer that question! Those are all the top Stardust filming locations in Scotland, England, Iceland and Wales. Have you watched Stardust? Or visited any of the locations of where was Stardust filmed? Let me know in the comments below!
