Andrew Lincoln stars in one of the episodes of Guillermo del Toro‘s Netflix horror anthology series Cabinet of Curiosities. It’s titled “The Murmuring” and he says that it’s “the scariest” hour of television Netflix has ever made.
The Walking Dead star appears in the episode alongside Essie Davis, and it was directed by The Babadook’s Jennifer Kent. In the story, Lincoln plays Edgar Bradley, an ornithology professor who buries himself in his study of birds following the death of his daughter. As you might imagine, creepy things start happening.

Lincoln told Tudum: “I hope audiences will have the same reaction I did when I read it, that it was a beautiful story about loss and coming to terms with grief. Hopefully some way of finding a way to navigate grief? But also, equally, that they get the scariest, the most appalling, nerve-shredding hour that Netflix has created. So far.”

I will say, this was one of my favorite episodes of Cabinet of Curiosities and it was pretty damn scary. Lincoln went on to say: “I took it very, very seriously. When [horror is] done well, it’s beautiful. Don’t Look Now, The Shining, they’re sort of essentially about loss and all trauma or relationships in crisis. They’ll never recover from the death of a child, no one does. But they can certainly try and live on and continue to love each other. Those are the overarching themes in this thing. That’s a really exciting area for actors to explore.”
He continued: “So much of the fear is this kind of psychological pressure cooker. That’s the bit I love, when you’re watching a movie and you realize you’ve been holding your breath for three minutes. “I think that what we’ve shot will operate on that level as well as the emotional level of Nancy and Edgar’s trauma.”

The series consists of eight blood-curdling tales of horror, and these sinister stories are told by some of today’s most revered horror creators. Del Toro discusses the series in the promo and it features some awesome footage from each of the stories and showcases the practical makeup effects that were used to bring the creatures in these stories to life.
The stories in Cabinet of Curiosities are “meant to challenge our traditional notions of horror. From macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, the eight sinister tales — including two original works by del Toro — will be brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by the Shape of Water filmmaker.”
Del Toro said in a statement: “With Cabinet of Curiosities, we set out to showcase the realities existing outside of our normal world: the anomalies and curiosities. We hand-picked and curated a group of stories and storytellers to deliver these tales, whether they come from outer space, supernatural lore, or simply within our minds. Just in time for Halloween, each of these eight tales is a fantastical peek inside the cabinet of delights existing underneath the reality we live in.”
