The Ultimate List of the Most Recent and Classic AAA Games That Support SLI or NVLink With Official NVidia SLI Profiles (With Proof of Good Performance Scaling)

To check if a game has an official SLI profile (in other words, official driver support from NVidia), in the past you could check the NVidia website as they previously had a list of SLI supported games. These days there’s no such list, so to know if a certain game has official SLI support you must investigate yourself and rely on community efforts such as this very hand-picked list of ours and from others (such as this list from Reddit user tuxubuntu).

But the fact we’re left to fend for ourselves when it comes to investigating SLI support and optimization/fixes shouldn’t have you jumping to conclusions like so many others that SLI is completely dead, as once you know how and where to look, finding out which games support SLI isn’t hard, and despite what many claim, there are still plenty of good recent games that have SLI support as you’ll see below. Plus, with some tweaking of custom profiles you can get most games that aren’t officially SLI-ready to work with a little patience.

Not all games that support SLI are worth running in SLI mode, such as Doom (2016), The Division, Hitman 2 and Rainbox Six Siege to name a few which won’t feature in this list due to poor scaling and/or widespread SLI performance issues that make SLI just not worth the few extra FPS (or the worse performance which unfortunately happens in some SLI supported games).

Truth be told though, creating this list of games that support SLI (well) was an absolute ***** to research, vet, research some more, and decide upon, and you can bet way too many braincells (and bothans) died to bring you this info. I’ve also now witnessed enough heated, SLI-slanging (and SLI-loving) debates across a vast amount of different niche gaming communities, so much so that that if I see yet another person claim SLI is dead without any evidence…I will do nothing because it’s to be very much expected 😉

See Also: Common Myths About SLI and Multi-GPU

To be fair though, SLI is absolutely NOT a good idea for the far majority, and besides, it’s out of the far majority of budgets anyway – assuming you’re not doing SLI with mid-range-ish GPUs which isn’t recommended in this day and age of very powerful single GPUs. But a blanket statement that SLI is completely dead for everyone, including hardcore perfectionist-type gamers wanting more than what any single GPU can provide (such rare specimens do exist and in growing numbers it seems based on just how popular gaming is in modern culture today) – it’s a straight-up inaccurate statement.

So, if you’re looking for an updated list of the best games that support SLI as of 2020, either to decide whether SLI is worth it for you or not, or if you’ve already built a SLI gaming PC and looking for some of the best graphically demanding titles to try out with the slight lottery that is SLI mode, it’s your lucky day (or night for fellow owls).

Best 2020 Games That Support SLI

As of writing this latest update in March 2020, there are no AAA games released this year with official SLI support. For example (unless I’m mistaken; if so please do let me know). Big releases like Doom Eternal don’t have an SLI profile, but you can try your luck forcing it manually using NVidia Inspector and following guides online.

As for the biggest release of the year so far, at least if you’re into VR, Half-Life: Alyx doesn’t support SLI right now but you never know if support will be added in a future NVidia driver update as the extra GPU grunt could come in very, very handy for such demanding applications as AAA VR gaming. Though if you’re wondering, yes a single 2080 Ti still runs it very nicely.

Anyway, watch this space for any future 2020 games that support SLI.

Best 2019 Games That Support SLI

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Initial Release Date: 15 November 2019

SLI Support Added: On Launch (Included in NVidia GeForce Driver 441.20)

One of the most recent games to support SLI properly is Fallen Order which interestingly included an official NVidia SLI profile from day one. That goes to show that despite what anyone angrily shouts ad nauseam in forums, SLI is just not dead, and while most modern games don’t support it, certain high profile AAA titles like Fallen Order certainly still do. If you search around for people’s experiences using SLI in Fallen Order, you’ll see plenty of reports of good performance gains with two cards – especially with Turing GPUs (ie the latest RTX cards).

Escape From Tarkov

Initial Release Date: Currently Available as Early Access (Full Version TBA)

SLI Support Added: 30 November 2017

Technically not a 2019 game as it hasn’t even been properly released yet (and an official launch date hasn’t been set but I’d guess 2020/2021), this impressive and very realistic, tactical, and unique first-person shooter is still fully playable in its current early-access edition which you can play right now if you pre-order the game.

The impressive Escape From Tarkov, an advanced tactical first-person shooter that’s had a limited early-access version out for a while now, does have an official NVidia SLI profile. In other words, yes, right now the current early-access 2019 version of Escape From Tarkov does support SLI, so let’s hope support remains once the final release arrives as some games do initially start out supporting SLI but then have support dropped like Apex Legends (which started off supporting SLI but now doesn’t anymore, though the good news is plenty of people have got Apex working with SLI very nicely if you look around YouTube).

Right now the SLI scaling and performance with Escape From Tarkov is a mixed bag based on what people have said, but if you use the right settings and do some tweaking it can work just fine and here’s some proof on Reddit. Plus, check this 1080 Ti SLI test run which shows it running smooth and good FPS numbers (no chance of those FPS numbers in 4K with a single 1080 Ti).

The Outer Worlds

Initial Release Date: October 25, 2019

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch (GeForce Driver 440.97)

NVidia added a SLI profile for The Outer Worlds a few days before launch, but only for the latest Turing (RTX) cards. Bad news for 9 or 10 series owners, but there could be a fix out there for these cards. Anyway, SLI benchmarks for this game are rare, but this one does show that respectable performance scaling with minimal to no micro-stuttering is possible.

Deliver Us the Moon

Initial Release Date: October 11, 2019

SLI Support Added: May 2019 (during development)

This just-released Sci-Fi thriller is a unique story-driven action adventure set in an apocalyptic near future where Earth’s natural resources have dried up. You play a lone astronaut who is sent to the moon to try and rescue Earth from extinction. The game looks great and has SLI support included out the gate which will come in handy for high frames in 4K and beyond. Being a fan of Sci-Fi, deep story, and realism, I’m itching to try this out as it covers all of these bases and the user and critical response has been very positive so far. To be honest, in terms of SLI scaling; based on absolutely nobody having tested the game so far (with a single card let alone two), I can’t confirm it will run well in SLI. But it does have an official SLI profile at the time of writing this so fingers crossed.

Hunt: Showdown

Initial Release Date: 29 August 2019

SLI Support Added: 25 April 2019 (during development)

Not as well known as some of the AAA blockbusters on this list, but lack of popularity doesn’t necessarily mean lack of quality and this game is a great example of that. Hunt Showdown can be a thoroughly enjoyable experience, but it’s also very demanding and so for 4K or beyond, a SLI rig is going to help out big time in this title on high settings and scaling from the limited benchmarks and reports online seems decent. Though glitches seem to be an issue for many, and there isn’t too many recent benchmarks available at the moment that use the official NVidia SLI profile (there’s some for custom fixes though) so this is a hesitant inclusion on this list.

F1 2019

Initial Release Date: 28 June 2019

SLI Support Added: 9 July 2019

I used to be addicted to F1 World Grand Prix on Nintendo 64 as a kid (though not anywhere near the levels of addiction to staggeringly-super classics like GE007 and Perfect Dark). But to witness just how realistic the series has become today and the fact the developers have continued creating quality titles is great to see. The latest instalment, F1 2019, is another 2019 released game that supports SLI out the box.

F1 2018 also supports it, but F1 2017 and older editions do not (though F1 2014 and earlier did) – it’s been a seesaw of support for the series. See this racing gamer’s dream benchmark for proof of F1 2019 running flawlessly-smooth at high frame rates in ridiculous 8K resolution using dual RTX 2080 Ti’s in the new NVLink configuration in DirectX 11. But SLI would also come in handy for 100-144FPS+ in 4K, as just like FPS games, racing titles are definitely a genre where high refresh-rate monitors make a lot of sense; for fast-paced FPS/action or racing titles 4K 144Hz will be a better experience than 8K 60FPS.

Quake 2 RTX

Initial Release Date: 6 June 2019

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

Brings back memories of thrashing this great game on an ancient CRT monitor and on the N64 version as well. Not really a 2019 game, though technically it is; this year the super-old but still super-fun classic got remastered with all-new real-time ray tracing for RTX cards, and with all those added lighting calculations it looks, well, light-years better! Yup – it also supports SLI and has great scaling from benchmarks I’ve seen, and this comparison of Titan RTX NVLink vs Titan RTX shows SLI being necessary if you want playable performance in 4K maxed with real-time ray tracing enabled.

It’s also interesting to not just see how much of a difference the ray tracing makes in terms of graphical detail and atmosphere, but just how crazy-demanding it is (RTX disabled gets a few HUNDRED more FPS!). I’m also glad to hear the recent news that NVidia is redoing more classic games with RTX, so it’ll be interesting to see which games get the makeover (HL1 please :D). Oh, and for the record, Quake 3 and Quake 4 both also have SLI profiles if you’re in the mood to rock them in super high-res.

Tropico 6

Initial Release Date: March 29, 2019

SLI Support Added: 28 May 2019

One of the best city-building simulators ever created, but very demanding on both GPU and CPU. Luckily for 4K enthusiasts wanting flawless performance, like Tropico 3 and 4, Tropico 6 supports SLI (but Tropico 5 however, does not). This Titan RTX SLI test shows around 90FPS on average in 4K on ultra preset, though I believe that was through manually forcing SLI to work before the official NVidia profile was released shortly after that video was made (so scaling could be better with the official profile).

Anthem

Initial Release Date: February 22, 2019

SLI Support Added: 4 Feb 2019

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

Initial Release Date: February 1, 2019 (PC Version)

SLI Support Added: March 2020 (NVLink With Turing GPUs Only)

Sometimes games get SLI support way down the track, and this is a prime example. An official NVidia SLI profile for Ace Combat 7 was added in the 445.75 GeForce driver in March 2020, though it’s for Turing (RTX) cards only. But just a heads up that including this title in this list of the best SLI supported games that also typically scale well is a bit of a risk, as it could turn out that scaling is just not good at all and I’ll have to remove this game from the list once people put out benchmarks or reports using the new SLI profile. But judging from some older SLI benchmarks for the game last year in 2019 that seem to show dual cards working fine for the game (perhaps via forcing SLI using NVidia Inspector), I’m confident the official SLI profile will run and scale decently.

Best 2018 Games That Support SLI

GRIP: Combat Racing

Initial Release Date: 6 November 2018

SLI Support Added: 27 March 2018 (during early access)

If anyone remembers ExtremeG or Wipeout, this is kinda the modern equivalent if you will. It’s also a spiritual successor to Rollcage. I wouldn’t call it an AAA title, though it’s a great game and so deserves a mention. Racing games are a genre where it makes sense to aim for consistently high FPS, and with SLI support you can do exactly that in this fairly demanding Unreal Engine powered GRIP in high resolutions if you so desire, though even for 4K a single top-end GPU will easily do the trick flawlessly on maxed settings AFAIK (no benches to be found to confirm) so what I’m really referring to by high-res here is ridiculous early-adopter territory of 5K or 8K.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Initial Release Date: 12 October 2018

SLI Support Added: 10 September 2018 (During Beta)

Who knows whether the soon to be released Modern Warfare (2019 Version) will support SLI, but Black Ops 4 from last year certain does and you can see an example of it running smooth as butter in 8K around 60FPS here. Yep, 8K. That’s not to say you’ll get such smooth performance though, as micro stuttering can be an issue in this game with multiple GPUs if you either don’t use a HB bridge or if you don’t have the right settings, but just know it’s definitely possible. Here’s another example of good scaling in the game with SLI 1080’s. Although for FPS titles you’ll get a better experience with 4K 144Hz than 8K 60Hz.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Initial Release Date: 14 September 2018

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch (DX12 mGPU)

SOTTR launched with mGPU (multi-GPU) support in DirectX 12 which provides much better scaling than traditional SLI in DX11, though that was compared to using a custom DX11 SLI profile as SOTTR doesn’t officially support DX11 SLI like ROTTR does (which we mention below).

Anyway, without being limited by something you haven’t setup correctly (referring to both hardware and software configuration) and without some pure bad luck, the DX12 “SLI” in this game can get some solid scaling and smooth stutter-free performance (at least as far as SLI scaling goes). I say SLI in quotations like that because mGPU in DX12 is technically different than SLI, but they’re essentially the same thing at the end of the day and people will (and will continue to) just call it SLI.

Though only short and not showing the most demanding sections of the game, this brief 4K Titan RTX SLI test run shows it looking amazing in 4K 60FPS+ (with RTX ray-tracing enabled, too). This 2080 Ti vs 1080 Ti SLI comparison also shows good SLI performance.

Strange Brigade

Initial Release Date: 28 August 2018

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

Strange Brigade is a great game, and one that has built-in mGPU support (DirectX 12). This benchmark saw a whopping 93% scaling with NVLink 2080 TI SLI in 4K, which is some of the best SLI scaling around. Or if you want to get ridiculous, see it running around 60FPS in 8K thanks to a monster SLI Titan RTX setup. Smooth 8K gaming in triple A titles is only feasible with SLI, as a single Titan RTX or 2080 Ti is going to be in struggle town for most modern games.

Jurassic World Evolution

Initial Release Date: 12 June 2018

SLI Support Added: 4 October 2018

Not the typical type of game you’d think of when picturing a monster SLI gaming PC, but in 4K or 5K (or 8K if you’re well ahead of your time) and in maximum detail, this game can be surprisingly demanding GPU-wise. Then again, which modern AAA game isn’t at such riduclously high pixel counts? If you’re a 0.1% super-enthusiast wanting 60FPS+ consistently in such high resolutions as 5K, then you’d need a second GPU, though I’m fairly sure a single RTX 2080 Ti has 4K completely covered. It should go without saying, but whatever you do don’t go building a SLI setup solely for slow-paced games like these as that would be a tad ridiculous, no?

Far Cry 5

Initial Release Date: 27 March 2018

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

While many new games released in the past couple of years don’t support SLI, Far Cry 5 is an exception and came with an official SLI profile from day one that also scaled well. As for the 2019 released Far Cry New Dawn, it also supports SLI, though from what I’ve seen from SLI users and benchmarks it doesn’t scale anywhere near as well as Far Cry 5, hence it not making our list of the current best SLI supported games that also scale well.

There are plenty of people reporting good SLI experiences with FC5 such as this 2080 Ti NVLink test, along with this SLI benchmark showing decent scaling as just two random examples. The latter used a 1070 Ti SLI setup, so I’d like to clarify it’s not recommend to go with mid-range GPU SLI setups in this day and age. This list of the best SLI supported games (that favors games that scale well) is meant for those considering going beyond what single GPUs are capable of, so if you’re in the market for a card below a Titan RTX or RTX 2080 Ti, just stick with the single best card you can afford instead of the unreliability of pairing two cards. SLI isn’t dead, but mid-range SLI just about is.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2

Initial Release Date: 8 March 2018

SLI Support Added: 25 April 2018

The most recent Warhammer game that supports SLI is Vermintide 2, the visually impressive first-person melee action title that received fairly universal acclaim. The developers patched in SLI support around two months after its initial release.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Initial Release Date: 13 Feb 2018

SLI Support Added: 9 May 2018

As is quite common, Kingdom Come Deliverance had its official NVidia SLI profile added well after launch (a few months later in this instance). This 1080 Ti SLI vs 1080 Ti comparison shows decent scaling (at least for SLI), and just as importantly, smooth hiccup-free performance in SLI mode – albeit only during a minuscule amount of gameplay. If you look around though you’ll see plenty of people reporting respectable SLI performance in this game which helps break that 60FPS 4K barrier consistently if that’s what you’re gunning for (and if you’re not..why are you still reading :P).

Best 2017 Games That Support SLI

Star Wars: Battlefront II

Initial Release Date: 17 November 2017

SLI Support Added: 15 November 2017

Battlefront 2 was released with SLI support, however many people were experiencing issues and poor to non-existent scaling. The good news is, many found disabling G-Sync fixed the problem. Overall though, Battlefront 2 doesn’t have the greatest scaling, but you still can get a nice boost in performance to get those high frames in 4K or 5K resolution (or 8K for crazy-early adopters with cash to freakin’ splash, though I’d prefer 4K 144Hz). Here’s an example of SLI working smoothly in SWBF2 using dual 1080 Ti’s, and check out this ridiculous 8K run netting around 60FPS which just would not be possible without SLI/NVLink.

Total War: Warhammer 2

Initial Release Date: 28 September 2017

SLI Support Added: 8 Jan 2018

We mentioned Vermintide 2 earlier, but it gets better for extreme GPU wielding Warhammer fans, as other fairly recent releases in the series, namely Total 2: Warhammer 2 and Warhammer 40,000: Total War 2 (confusing naming schemes, no?), both also have official SLI support, and scaling in all three of these SLI supported games seems decent to pretty damn good from what I gather in benchmarks and reports across internet land.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War

Initial Release Date: 27 September 2017

SLI Support Added: 30 November 2017

Project Cars 2

Initial Release Date: 21 September 2017

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

The intricately detailed motorsport simulator is a sight to behold at 60FPS in 4K, but how about 4K 144Hz or 8K 60FPS? Only possible with SLI, and luckily for racing fans Project Cars 2 not only has official support for SLI, but it scales well too. Here’s a glorious benchmark someone did in 8K which runs super smooth, though personally I’d rather use a 4K 144Hz display for the racing genre as the extra frames makes a difference in fast-paced games.

Destiny 2

Initial Release Date: 6 September 2017

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

First released back in 2017, Destiny 2 is more than alive and kicking in 2019 with many expansions since and a thriving community. The game also supported SLI from the start for the performance elite, and results has widely been reported as rock solid. For a couple examples, see it running super smooth and with nice high frames in 4K with GTX 1080 SLI here and RTX 2080 Ti SLI here, but you’ll find many benchmarks and tests online that show good scaling and smooth performance with SLI enabled.

ARK: Survival Evolved

Initial Release Date: 29 August 2017

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

In 2019 Ark is still one of the most demanding games on the planet, so thankfully a SLI profile was included on launch to reach flawlessly high FPS numbers in 4K and beyond. See this Titan RTX SLI vs Titan RTX side by side comparison for an example of SLI scaling smoothly in 4K on epic settings.

Dirt 4

Initial Release Date: 6 June 2017

SLI Support Added: 8 Jan 2018

Dirt 4 has SLI support, but it’s an example of a game that had support included long after launch. The good news for those who waited it out though was good scaling and performance. Here’s just one example. The previous title in the series, Dirt Rally, also supports SLI, but unfortunately the latest Dirt Rally 2.0 does not (at least as of right now so a future patch may change that).

Mass Effect Andromeda

Initial Release Date: 21 March 2017

SLI Support Added: 20 March 2017 (before launch)

Like the previous 3 titles in the awesome series, the more recent Mass Effect Andromeda supports SLI and this 1080 Ti SLI play-through looks smooth and gets consistently-high 60FPS+ in 4K maxed. Same with this 2080 Ti NVLink SLI run; no easy task in this very demanding (and many would add poorly optimized) title. Here is another example of the game running well with SLI, but this is one of those titles where SLI scaling and reliability is unreliable, and it might take a lot of experimenting and research with tweaking NVidia Inspector to get running right (if at all; crashes are commonplace).

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands

Initial Release Date: 7 March 2017

SLI Support Added: On Release

Ghost Recon Wildlands supports SLI and generally runs and scales well if your system is up to scratch and/or you aren’t unlucky (like many games that support SLI, manual tweaks may be necessary to get things going smoothly). See this 2080 Ti vs 2080 Ti SLI benchmark as an example of the game running well in SLI. The latest release Ghost Recon Breakpoint doesn’t have SLI support at launch though, continuing the current downward trend of recent AAA games supporting SLI, but SLI support could be added later (though I wouldn’t hold your breath).

For Honor

Initial Release Date: 14 Feb 2017

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

This 1070 Ti SLI benchmark got a 75.1 FPS average in 4K high settings compared to 48 FPS with a single 1070. Not bad in the grand scheme of SLI scaling.

Sniper Elite 4

Initial Release Date: 14 Feb 2017

SLI Support Added: Before Launch (24 Jan 2017)

Sniper Elite 4 launched with a SLI profile for DirectX 11. Gamer’s Nexus found excellent scaling in this title with dual NVLink 2080 Ti in DirectX 12, and if you look around on YouTube you’ll find others who got great results too.

Best 2016 Games That Support SLI

Watch Dogs 2

Initial Release Date: 15 November 2016

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

The realistic rendition of San Fran in Watch Dogs 2 makes for a very demanding game on max settings and high resolution, and the included SLI support is good news for performance enthusiasts wanting high-end 4K performance. However, I’ll admit the game was a hesitant inclusion on this list of the “best” games that support SLI, as there’s widespread issues with the official NVidia SLI profile and it may take a ton of tweaking to get running right. However there are examples of people using it without issues (albet average scaling) such as this guy running GTX 1080 SLI in 4K ultra at good frames and this benchmark smoothly running two RTX 2080 Ti’s in SLI so it gets a mention on our list as it’s entirely possible to run well.

Dishonored 2

Initial Release Date: 11 November 2016

SLI Support Added: 18 November 2016

Dishonored 2 did not release with a NVidia SLI profile, but the support came just a week later and it seemed to work alright in 4K using dual GTX 1080’s. For a more recent example on Turing cards, see it in crazy-high FPS using a SLI 2080 Ti rig in this benchmark I found.

Ashes of the Singularity

Initial Release Date: 11 November 2016

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

Often used judiciously in benchmarks due to its very demanding nature, Ashes of the Singularity is a very solid RTS game with a unique approach. A big part of the reason why it’s so demanding on hardware is the ability to create so many units, with the huge scale of the maps also playing a key role in the almost inevitable destruction of your frame rate. To put it simply, there’s just a ridiculous amount going on, and for flawless 4K performance multiple cards will help with its SLI support, however mGPU scaling in Ashes of the Singularity from what I’ve seen isn’t the greatest but it does run smooth in SLI. Just make sure to try disabling SLI to get it working as it uses DX12 mGPU, which is still “SLI” but technically implemented differently.

Titanfall 2

Initial Release Date: 28 October 2016

SLI Support Added: 9 March 2017

Titanfall 2 took a while to get an official SLI profile patched in, but the driver eventually came, although many people got SLI working with a custom profile before then. Anyway, SLI performance in the game isn’t the greatest out there, but it can be decent. This clip shows it running smooth and at 70-120FPS+ in 4K using dual 2080 Ti’s.

Battlefield 1

Initial Release Date: 21 October 2016

SLI Support Added: On Release

Battlefield V, the most recent instalment in the series, doesn’t officially support SLI (but you can get it working with some workarounds explained here and elsewhere online). Battlefield 1 does support SLI, and if you don’t get unlucky and encounter issues then scaling is decent. As an example, this BF1 1080 SLI vs 1080 benchmark reports scaling of around 74%, which for SLI is very good considering most titles are don’t scale anywhere near as well.

Shadow Warrior 2

Initial Release Date: 13 October 2016

SLI Support Added: On Release

This 1080 vs 1080 SLI benchmark shows Shadow Warrior 2 scaling extremely well in 4K, and just as importantly, nice and smoothly without stuttering or glitches.

Gears of War 4

Initial Release Date: 11 October 2016

SLI Support Added: May 2017 (DirectX 12)

Like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Gears 4 uses what’s called explicit mGPU (multi GPU) which only works in DirectX 12. Think of it like a new and improved version of SLI, which can allow for better scaling performance, and this 4K Gears 4 benchmark confirms it – 37.9 average FPS with a single 1080, and 66.3 with SLI 1080. In anyone’s books that’s some impressive scaling right there, and the closest thing you’ll get to pure 100% scaling with multiple cards. That’s also on the game’s very demanding “insane” settings, which is a step further than typical ultra settings (which is demanding enough as it is). If you encounter glitches make sure to implement the fixes others have reported (such as in the comments of that vid) to get things running nice and smooth.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Initial Release Date: 23 August 2016

SLI Support Added: On Release

Like many of the games that support SLI on this list, you’ll find a lot of people reporting issues online and requiring help to get SLI running okay. But who you don’t hear from is the silent majority who didn’t have issues. Deus Ex Mankind Divided is no different, and on the surface it can seem like SLI support is bad in this game. However, there are plenty of people who get good scaling and smooth performance in either DX11 or DX12 (the latter of which had multi-GPU support added for this game in October 2016, though DX11 SLI was available on launch). As a case in point, this awesome 13-game 1070 Ti SLI benchmark shows the game running very decently (for SLI, that is) with multiple cards in 4K DX11 (kudos TechDeals; a great, well-explained, value-filled video).

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst

Initial Release Date: 7 June 2016

SLI Support Added: On Release

A unique, visually stunning first-person action game, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst supported SLI from the get. From what I’ve seen the scaling isn’t amazing, but it still makes the cut as one of the overall best SLI supported games in this era as there are examples of it running decently in SLI and it’s one of those intensely GPU-demanding games that needs all the help it can get at high resolutions. As an example, check out this 1080 SLI benchmark which shows it running nice and smoothly at a consistent 60FPS+ in 4K and this 1070 Ti SLI benchmark showing 74% scaling in 4K. definitely not something you’d be getting with just the single 1080 (as shown by GN’s benchmark), though to get similar results with your SLI setup you might have to do some patient tweaking and research.

Overwatch

Initial Release Date: 24 May 2016

SLI Support Added: On Release

The massively successful Overwatch also supports SLI, and actually scales really well. While not the most demanding game overall as any good single GPU will have you covered well, that’s besides the point as you could say this article is for 4K+ gamers only, where a multi-GPU setup can help to get super high frame rates on maxed detail (and Overwatch is a game where 144Hz monitors, and therefore shooting for 144FPS+, does make a lot of sense). For just a few examples of Overwatch scaling well and running smoothly in SLI, see here (4K, GTX 1080 SLI), here (” “) and here (8K, GTX Titan X SLI). Techspot also found excellent SLI scaling in Overwatch.

Dark Souls 3

Initial Release Date: 12 April 2016

SLI Support Added: On Release

SLI scaling in Dark Souls 3 is generally decent, and just as importantly can be a smooth micro-stutter-free ride assuming you’re using the right settings based on what others online found worked best, your hardware isn’t slowing you down (eg using a HB bridge if running Pascal cards), and let’s be honest – you don’t encounter bad luck (remember SLI can be finicky and unreliable). But plenty of people report good SLI performance in the game, and as just one example of many see how impressive this already good-looking game looks in 4K maxed with AA enabled using SLI 1080’s here.

Hitman

Initial Release Date: 11 March 2016

SLI Support Added: On Release

There’s a lot of proof online that Hitman runs well in SLI, but can’t say the same for Hitman 2 (the 2018 title) hence its omission from this list.

Best 2015 Games That Support SLI

Fallout 4

Initial Release Date: 10 November 2015

SLI Support Added: 1 December 2015

Fallout 4 had its official NVidia SLI profile added shortly after release, and performance and scaling is generally okay with multiple cards. This GTX 1080 SLI vs single 1080 benchmark shows respectable scaling and smooth performance – nothing crazy, but solid, and reflects other SLI benchmarks of Fallout 4 such as this one too. For the record, at the time of writing, the new Fallout 76 doesn’t support SLI though.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Initial Release Date: 10 November 2015

SLI Support Added: ~Q1 2016

The latest in the series (Shadow of the Tomb Raider) has a stellar implementation of “SLI” (AKA mGPU) in DirectX 12 with excellent scaling, but the original Rise of the Tomb Raider doesn’t seem to scale as well based on benchmarks I’ve seen. Techspot found a 60% performance boost with 1080 SLI vs a single 1080 (in 4K on very high setting and with SMAA enabled), which is okay in the grand scheme of SLI scaling, however Digital Foundry found better scaling in the title. What sort of performance and scaling you get will depend on various factors such as your CPU, motherboard, system temperatures, drivers, the exact SLI profile you use, and so on.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Initial Release Date: 1 September 2015

SLI Support Added: Fxxxx

Another great addition to the masterpiece of a series that is MGS, MGS5 is deserving of a placement in any SLI gamer’s library as it supports the tech and can really help in 4K or higher. See it running smooth in 4K with dual Titan X’s here.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Initial Release Date: 19 May 2015

SLI Support Added: Included On Release

The masterpiece needing no introduction that contends for the throne of best video game ever made, Witcher 3 thankfully has an official SLI profile, and even better, it can provide respectable scaling assuming you’re using the right settings (whatever you do, disable darn Hairworks or risk tanking performance even with SLI). You may need to further tweak things around for the best SLI performance (Google and YT are your friends as always) but most reports and benchmarks show good scaling, and just as (if not more) importantly, smooth stutter-free gameplay.

Grand Theft Auto 5

Initial Release Date: 14 April 2015 (PC Version)

SLI Support Added: Included On Release

GTA5 was very demanding when it first released, but will still test a system in 2019 in high resolution and settings. Luckily for the perfectionists out there seeking flawless 4K 60-100FPS+ performance (or some ridiculous 5K or 8K gaming) the game does support SLI. There’s also plenty of examples of people running it very nicely with dual cards.

Dying Light

Initial Release Date: 27 January 2015

SLI Support Added: February 2015

Dying Light is one of the best zombie games of all time. See it running in glorious 8K resolution in SLI here. The sequel Dying Light Bad Blood also supports SLI, but it’s not as good of a game and so doesn’t make the cut here. We can’t mention every single game that supports SLI otherwise this post would never end (and it’s long enough as is).

Best Old Classic Games That Support SLI

Ryse: Son of Rome

Initial Release Date: 10 October 2014 (PC Version)

SLI Support Added: October 23 2014

A game loved by many but that didn’t score too well with critics overall (mostly due to repetitive gameplay), Ryse Son of Rome was a visual revolution when it first came out and offered some of the best graphics ever seen. Even to this day it’s still visually impressive, with multiple GPUs being needed for flawless 4K performance on maximum detail settings. SLI supported was added by NVidia around two weeks after the launch of the PC version (it launched a tad earlier on Xbox One as a launch title). See this GTX 1080 Ti SLI run showing smooth, high frames in glorious 4K.

Batman: Arkham Origins

Initial Release Date: 25 October 2013

SLI Support Added: 19 September 2013 (before launch)

The latest title in the action adventure series doesn’t support SLI officially (Arkham Knight), but if you look around you’ll see plenty of people who have figured out how to get it working. Batman Arkham Origins though, the previous game in the series released back in 2013, does have an official SLI profile though, and overall is one of the better SLI-optimized games on this list and the extra GPU grunt comes in handy as the game can still be taxing on today’s hardware. Plus, all these years later, it’s still a great game for Batman fans, and which of the two is the better game is up for debate and there are good arguments for either.

Crysis 3

Initial Release Date: 19 February 2013

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

The notoriously demanding Crysis series deserves a mention without a doubt. Famous for the “can it run Crysis” joke within DIY circles, the age-old meme is still as strong as ever nowadays since graphics in the Crysis series are still impressive to this day, and is still a demanding-enough title to bring even respectable current-day systems to their knees in high resolutions and high graphics settings (especially in 1440p or 4K).

Thankfully though, performance enthusiasts seeking perfectionist-levels of FPS in super high-quality and maxed detail will be pleased to know the SLI support in Crysis 3 is also strong, with good scaling and smooth performance. And yes – all Crysis games (1, 2, and 3) support SLI.

If you’re wanting to run Crysis 3 in 4K 144Hz, a SLI 2080 Ti setup will get the job done nicely. Same thing for 8K 60Hz (see another 8K test with 1080 Ti SLI here), where you’d need multiple GPUs to get respectable, playable frames. This Pascal test further confirms good SLI scaling in the title (1080 Ti SLI vs 1080 Ti).

Borderlands 2

Initial Release Date: 19 September 2012

SLI Support Added: Included On Launch

The 2012 game of the year deserves a mention despite its age, but the recent 2019-released sequel Borderlands 3 lacks SLI support which is another example of the overall downward trend of official SLI support for the bit hits. Nevertheless, you can bet your bottom dollar that SLI fixes will be made available by friendly folks of the ‘net, though how well it’ll run and scale is another matter. But Borderlands 2 scales decently with its official SLI profile.

Max Payne 3

Initial Release Date: 15 May 2012

SLI Support Added: Unknown

Another quality, demanding AAA blast from the past that still looks great in the modern age and that can also still wreck havoc on modern hardware on high settings and large resolutions. SLI support and scaling in Max Payne 3 was awesome, and this performance analysis reported a whopping 96% scaling. If you’re new to SLI land, in theory getting double the performance with double the GPU power sounds about right, no? In reality though, SLI scaling is almost never linear (and therefore double), so to get close to 100% (which would be double) is just insane. And if you want to be on the cutting edge and well ahead of your time like Elon Musk, see it running smooth here with a 2080 Ti SLI setup in 8K glory.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Initial Release Date: 11 November 2011

SLI Support Added: Unknown

Some games will never die and are still amazing experiences many years later, with the now 8-year old Skyrim being a prime example. The original, vanilla Skyrim has a NVidia SLI profile and helped players back in the day to squeeze out more frames, but if you’re playing Skyrim these days you’ll want to get the recent Special Edition version which doesn’t officially support SLI. However, the good news is plenty of people have got it working well with some simple tweaks (see here and here).

World of Tanks

Initial Release Date: 12 August 2010

SLI Support Added: October 23 2014

Despite what some seem to inaccurately report online, as far as I’m aware from my research into this, the popular tank simulator World of Tanks does indeed have a NVidia SLI profile as of 2019. See it running at 60FPS on ultra settings in insane 8K resolution using a Pascal SLI system here (dual GTX 1080 Ti’s), but for 4K and below a single top-end GPU will do the trick as there’s no real need for higher than 60Hz/60FPS in a slower-paced game like this.

Dead Space

Initial Release Date: October 20, 2008

SLI Support Added: Unknown

All entries in this great sci-fi survival horror series officially support SLI. That means Dead Space 1, 2 and 3. This guy ran the original in 4K, 8K, and insane 16K resolutions with a RTX 2080 Ti SLI rig and performance looks solid. All these years later, the game (and 2 and 3) still holds up as an enjoyable experience if this genre is your cup of tea. It also still is demanding on modern hardware in high resolutions and ultra settings, so the extra boost from multiple GPUs would come in handy for situations like 4K 144Hz or 8K 60Hz.

Half Life 2

Initial Release Date: 16 November 2004

SLI Support Added: Unknown

I still remember first playing this with pure excitement and anticipation, and I wasn’t let down. That gravity gun is truly something else. But for such an old (but obviously still amazing) game the only time when SLI is going to help is for insane resolutions 5K and beyond. Speaking of which, this guy ran it at glorious 16K resolution using quad Titan X’s. Yup; 16K. Not possible with modern GPUs as while 2-Way SLI is alive, 3 and 4-Way is indeed under ground, but surreal stuff nonetheless and something I would love to try out myself the next time I go through this masterpiece. And yes, HL2 Episode One and Two also have SLI profiles.

Doom 3

Initial Release Date: 3 August 2004

SLI Support Added: ~Q3/Q4 2004

The recent 2016 version of Doom has a lot of issues with SLI and so I can’t comfortably include it on this list (though it’s likely possible to get it working alright), however the SLI results with Doom 3 is a different story and worked very well. I think Doom 3 is the better experience anyway, especially if you prefer a more slower-paced, atmospheric experience over the typical fast-action of other Doom games. Doom 3 is also a (good) anomaly in the series as it blends traditional FPS action with horror, and to this day I vividly remember physically jumping and shouting on many occasions when I first played it late at night as a teen. In this day and age any respectable single GPU will run this game flawlessly, so SLI is only going to help in extreme resolutions and settings (think 8K, AA etc).

Missed a Good Game? Got Feedback?

That wraps our hand-picked list of SLI supported games that have a good chance to scale decently with the right setup and settings. We’ll look to update this list again in future to keep tabs on SLI support. If you have any thoughts on how we can make this list better, or think we missed a good SLI supported game (with an official NVidia profile) with scaling proof from benchmarks? We’d love to hear it.
