Will You Be Okay With the Equinox?
Let’s kick things off with the smallest of this group-the Equinox. This compact SUV is going to drive more like a car than an SUV. That makes it really great for someone who is moving from a sedan to their very first SUV. If you aren’t yet ready for the larger dimensions and slightly bulkier handling of a midsize or full-size SUV, a compact SUV like the Equinox can be a nice introduction to the world of SUVs.
This one’s going to have seating for five with a maximum of 63.9 cubic feet of cargo space. We would say that this is an excellent vehicle for smaller families looking for an SUV for everyday driving and running errands around town. It is equally equipped for a professional in need of a vehicle with excellent fuel economy for their commute because it gets 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.

You can do a little towing with this vehicle-up to 1,500 pounds, to be exact. Its engine has a nice little kick to it, but it doesn’t exactly boast the massive power found in some of Chevy’s larger options. One-or should we say two-great things about this SUV are that it comes in the stylish Midnight and Redline Editions, which have some eye-catching style details that give it a distinctly metropolitan aesthetic. That’s another reason we often recommend it to city drivers needing a vehicle for meeting corporate clients. 
Is the Blazer Just Right?
Now let’s take a look at the Blazer, Chevy’s midsize, two-row SUV offering. Like the Equinox, it also seats five. However, it has larger overall dimensions than the Equinox, which extends to its passenger and cargo volume. The Blazer offers 30.5 cubic feet of cargo space in its trunk, which can expand to a maximum of 64.2 cubic feet when you fold the seats down. The back seat is going to be more spacious in the Blazer compared to the Equinox. For this reason, if you plan on filling the back seat with mostly adults or tall passengers and going on longer trips, this will probably be more comfortable than the Equinox for those conditions.
It’s also going to get a more powerful engine option, with a better standard inline-four and an available V6. That’s part of the reason this midsize SUV can tow up to 4,500 pounds. Now, that’s a 3,000-pound jump from the 1,500-pound towing capacity of the Equinox, which clearly makes the Blazer better suited for those who need to tow larger items, like perhaps a small boat or camper. The Blazer does still get solid fuel economy for an SUV, sitting at an average of 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway with the smaller engine. Because this is a midsize SUV, it’s going to feel more like an SUV behind the wheel rather than a smooth car. That being said, it’s still relatively easy to maneuver.
Does the Traverse Have Enough Room for You?
Finally, we get to the Traverse, a family-friendly, three-row SUV that’s ready for road trips. It can seat either seven or eight passengers, depending on the seating configuration you choose. This is your people hauler, without question. It boasts a massive 98.2 cubic feet of available cargo volume, which is substantially larger than that of the Blazer or Equinox. If it’s space that you need, you need the Traverse.

It has a powerful V6 engine that enables it to tow up to 5,000 pounds. So, for those who are into camping, boating, and ATVing-you get the idea-this vehicle has you covered and will get your equipment to your destination. You’re going to see a bit of a fuel economy drop here compared to the other SUVs, down to 18 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. However, that’s to be expected when you’re driving this much steel and this many humans.
This vehicle is going to drive more like a truck. That’s just something we like to make our customers aware of if they’re used to driving cars previously. But, again, Chevy does have quite a few driver-assist features in place here to help you be aware of what’s happening around this large SUV at all times.
One thing we do like to point out about the Traverse is that, of these three options, it is the only one offering the luxury High Country trim. This trim has been touted as being one of the greatest luxury trims on the market, across the competition, right now. It has really beautiful upscale materials and more advanced tech that makes it a true pleasure to spend time in. 
So, Which SUV Should You Get From Chevy?
It is probably clear by now that each of these SUVs is appropriate for its own distinct and very different driver. They’re all a breed of their own and not really in competition with one another. If you are looking for an SUV with car-like handling but a higher driving position and more spacious cargo area than a sedan, then you’ll probably be looking at the Equinox. If you don’t need seating for more than five, and fuel economy is of the utmost importance to you, you’ll almost definitely choose this option from this lineup.
Drivers looking for something that sits in between a compact SUV and a three-row, with seating for five and more space than the Equinox, while not quite having the larger dimensions of the Traverse, will probably go for the Blazer. Its rear seat is spacious enough to keep backseat passengers comfortable on long rides. If you need seating for seven or eight passengers, then there’s no question about it: you need the Traverse. It’s got room for everyone and their belongings. Also, if you need to tow 5,000 pounds, only the Traverse is going to offer that capability. The Traverse is a true hauler of people and stuff, and if that’s your priority, you need a Traverse.
