Which Is Bigger Lexus Rx Or Nx

Lexus-RX-vs-Lexus NX

Lexus has an expansive lineup of luxury SUVs to suit any budget or lifestyle. You can opt for a compact model for agile and efficient driving or choose a full-size SUV designed for spacious comfort for large families and everything in between. In this article, we compare the Lexus NX and Lexus RX SUVs in terms of their size. We also look at some of the more popular features of both vehicles.

Lexus NX vs. Lexus RX: Overview

The Lexus NX occupies the compact SUV segment for the luxury brand, while the RX lineup competes in the crowded midsize SUV category. As a result, the Lexus RX has larger dimensions. However, both these vehicles offer a smaller footprint than many SUVs.

Edge: Even

You don’t have a wrong choice between the two SUVs. This decision comes down to your personal preference for the size of your SUV.

Lexus NX vs. Lexus RX: Dimensions

The Lexus NX has a wheelbase measuring 105.9 inches, an overall length of 183.5 inches, a width of 73.4 inches, and a height of 65.4 inches. NX SUVs have 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seats, while folding the rear seats flat opens up a total of 46.9 cubic feet.

You get 38.3 inches of headroom in the front seats and 38.5 inches in the rear seats with the standard roof. If you opt for a moonroof, the headroom dips slightly to 37.1 and 38.1 inches in the front and rear seats, respectively. And with the panoramic glass roof, the rear seats have 37.4 inches of headroom.

Legroom measures 41 inches in front seats and 36.1 inches for rear-riding passengers. The NX shoulder room comes in at 56.3 inches in front and 54 inches in the back. Finally, the hip room in the front reaches 56.3 inches and 52.5 inches in the rear.

RX models have a 112.2-inch wheelbase supporting an overall length of 192.5 inches. The Lexus RX is 75.6 inches wide and 67.3 inches tall. Inside the cabin, you have 29.6 cubic feet of cargo area behind the rear seats and 46.2 cubic feet when you fold the back seats flat.

You also have three roof styles for the RX. The hard-top roof provides 39.5 inches of headroom in the front seats and 38.6 inches in the back seats. A moon roof lowers your headroom to 38.1 inches for front passengers and 38.5 inches for rear-seat riders. And the panoramic roof variant has 37.6 inches in front and 37 inches in the back.

The front seat legroom in the RX measures 41.1 inches, while the rear seat legroom measures 37.4 inches. The shoulder room is 58.1 inches in front and 56.5 inches in back. The hip room allows for 56.7 inches in the front seats and 56 inches in the back.

As the numbers show, the Lexus RX has a longer wheelbase, which allows for more interior space. However, the differences in head, leg, shoulder, and hip room remain nominal enough that passengers in either vehicle won’t feel cramped.

The most significant variance we found is the cargo capacity. The RX has an impressive 7 cubic feet more space in the cargo hold. But the NX cargo area has greater space when you fold the rear seat flat.

Edge: Lexus RX

The RX is the bigger vehicle, inside and out. But both the RX and NX fit five passengers in premium comfort. Perhaps the RX makes more sense for young families with its larger cargo capacity to make trips to the store and weekend excursions without infringing on rear passengers’ space.

Lexus NX vs. Lexus RX: Trim Levels and Pricing

Lexus makes the NX in five trim levels, while the Lexus RX is available in an impressive 14 trims. You can find regular and hybrid powertrain versions, and both vehicles have options for front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). Here’s a look at the trim levels and pricing for each:

As the table shows, the NX has a more approachable entry-level price. You can add AWD for $1,600 on either vehicle. The RX offers more trim levels in its middle tier than the NX has, and it boasts five hybrid models versus the two NX hybrids. Surprisingly, the top-of-the-range NX and RX are competitively priced and feature impressive power and performance.

Edge: Lexus RX

The Lexus NX resides in a less competitive segment than the midsize Lexus RX. So we aren’t surprised with its relatively fewer trim levels. However, the Lexus RX has more options for various budgets and lifestyles.

Lexus NX vs. Lexus RX: Powertrain

Base model LX trims feature a 2.5L inline four-cylinder engine that generates 203 horsepower. That’s plenty of output for the compact SUV. However, a 2.4L inline four-cylinder turbo engine in the middle trims puts out 275 horsepower. The hybrid powertrain uses a 2.5L engine and produces 240 horsepower, while the plug-in hybrid models impress with 304 horsepower.

Lexus RX lower trims use a 2.4L turbo four-cylinder that makes 275 horsepower. Hybrid versions with a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine put out 246 horsepower. However, the top-tier RX model has a 2.4L turbo four-cylinder hybrid that produces 366 horsepower.

Edge: Lexus RX

The Lexus RX has more power than the NX throughout the lineup.
