Noah, or Noe` or Noach, was the tenth and last of the pre-flood Patriarchs. When Noah was five hundred years old, he begat, in order of birth, Japheth, Shem and Ham (Genesis 5:32).
Shem is Noah‘s second son; he was 100 years old at the birth of his son Arphaxad, two years after the flood and he lived for another 500 years after this, making his age at death 600 years.

Noah died 350 years after the Flood, at the age of 950, which means that Noah was 600 years old at the time of the Great Deluge, making Japheth 100 years old and Shem 98 years old when the Flood came.
The Lord spoke to Noah and made him aware that He was going to destroy the world after 120 years. This means that Noah had that much time to prepare himself for the catastrophic event.
When his first son Japheth was born, 20 years later, Noah was already spiritually prepared to be a godly father, one who has the heart and mind of God, and in the process of preparing to save his life and provide for his future in a new world, knowing what was coming. After him, came two more sons, for whom he did the same.
The children of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. Gomer was the father of Gomerians, a.k.a. Cimmerians or Celts and Italic peoples, whose descendants covered the entire continent of Europe prior to the invasion of the Goths. Magog was the father of the Scythians, a.k.a. Goths, and all their tribes (Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Franks, etc.).
Madai was the father of the Medes and the Persians. Javan was the father of the Ionians, a.k.a. Greeks. Meshech was probably the father of the Slavs.
The children of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram, in addition to daughters. The 1st-century historian Flavius Josephus, among many others, recounted the tradition that these five sons were the progenitors of the nations of Elam, Assyria, Chaldea, Lydia, and Syria, respectively.
The children of Ham, the third born, were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. These four sons were the progenitors of the peoples who inhabited the African continent, except for Canaan who was the ancestor of the peoples who lived in the land of Canaan, modern day Israel and Lebanon.
Abraham (originally called Abram), the Patriarch of the Hebrews and Arabs, was one of the descendants of Shem through his son Arphaxad. He was called by God to leave his father Terah’s house and native land of Chaldea in return for a new land, family, and inheritance in Canaan, the Promised Land.
God made a Covenant with Abraham by which he would have to walk in the Commandments of the Lord and God would bless him with numerous literal descendants from his seed and numerous spiritual descendants from among the Gentile nations. Abraham is the spiritual father of all those who seek the Lord from the heart and are willing to go the distance to follow God’s ways and lifestyle, as he did.
Abraham married Sarah and lived around 2000 B.C. and when he died at the age of 175, he was buried by his sons Isaac and Ishmael in the land of Canaan where he had settled. God, in His Covenant with Abraham, had promised Canaan as a perpetual inheritance to his descendants as long as they walked in His Laws.

Isaac married Rebekah and begat Esau and Jacob; Esau was the progenitor of the Edomites and the elder twin brother of Jacob, the Patriarch of the Israelites.
Jacob had twelve sons and at least one daughter, by his two wives, Leah and Rachel, and by their handmaidens Bilhah and Zilpah.

Just as God gave Abraham an inheritance for his children, God gave an inheritance to all the peoples of the earth. The children of Japheth received Europe, the Shemites (or Semites) received Asia and the Hamites received Africa. God blessed them with rains and crops, food and animals and did not abandon them by leaving them to starve and die. Every nation had their share of land and portion of blessings.
The behavior of our Heavenly Father should be an example for every father, and parent in general, to follow. He did not leave any Gentile nation empty handed even if their rebellion and poor choices were a cause of grief for Him.
The righteous men of the Bible, such as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, gave all their children their portion of the inheritance when they were ready to leave their parents’ home. Even if the children were unfaithful to God and their choices were a cause of grief for their parents!
Genesis 26:34-35 – “When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith, the daughter of Beeri, the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon, the Hittite. And they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah.”
For instance, Esau received his share of the inheritance just like his brother Jacob, the patriarch of the 12 Tribes of Israel, despite not following the God of his father Isaac and transgressing God’s Law by taking an Ishmaelite woman and two Hittite women, who lived in the land of Canaan as wives, women who were unwilling to follow the Laws and customs of the Jews.
Genesis 36:6-7 – “Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother Jacob. For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together, and the land where they were strangers could not support them because of their livestock.”
It was the right thing to do for a father to provide financial support for his children to start their life when they were ready to leave the family nest. And he would do this by dividing the inheritance among the children.
Inheriting was not based on whether a child followed God or not, it was the duty of the parent who, as such, had to provide for the children so that they could start their life with dignity away from their father’s home.
The only condition for a son to receive his father’s inheritance was that he should not be a criminal, in other words, he should not be one who was guilty of major crimes (rape, murder, etc.). But, for all other cases, the inheritance was divided among all the children, whether they followed God or not.
After all, this is the free will that God grants to all living creatures. But disobedience to Him is not a good reason for not receiving inheritance from a father.

Joshua 24:4 – Joshua said to all the people: “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the mountains of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt’.”
In the same manner, has not God Himself always given all men, even pagan men, land and rains so that their crops would prosper flourish and thus they could feed themselves? God Himself gives the pagans their portion, as well. It is certainly not the spiritual inheritance that God’s children receive, but He provides for them, too, sometimes even abundantly, just like He does for others.
Acts 14:15-17 – “We preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”
Just like today, right? How many times do we witness situations where children, despite coming from prominent “Christian” families, have been disowned and cut off from the family, sent away with nothing, perhaps disinherited, because they just did not want to follow their parents’ religion?
How many children are left to fend for themselves, because they make choices against their parents’ wishes and depart from the family’s “Christianity”, or simply because they do not want to embark on the career their parents have already set up for them (see children of businessmen, or attorneys, for example)?
How many often find themselves trapped by home mortgages, car loans and by debt increasing every day more and more, due to rising costs of living, monthly car payments, car insurances, medical bills, credit card bills? Money loans after money loans.
They live all their life thinking: “How am I going to pay for my car loan and home mortgage, and for all the bills and monthly payments I have?” They will live all their life trying to figure out ways to repay for the money that the credit institutions loaned them, instead of living a debt free life, all because their parents did not provide for them in the first place, when they started their adult life.
These children will tend to become overachievers, chronic perfectionists; they will be plagued by performance anxiety, fear and stress about the future. Then, they will hear someone quoting the Scripture “take no thought for tomorrow…” Right! How could you possibly think of doing so when you live buried by debt?
This is not what the Bible teaches! God does not teach this by His example nor by the example of the righteous men who walked in His ways, who provided for their children, spiritually and materially, even when they did not follow the God of their fathers.
If you find yourself in this situation, as the son or daughter of parents who did not love you the way your Heavenly Father loves you, the first thing to do is to realize that Father God is not like your earthly father.
Then, you have to act wisely and be responsible with your money and do anything you possibly can to come out of debt. God will see your heart and help you setting up the pathway for you to walk on.
And as for you, you be a different parent to your children, do not model your earthly mother and father, if this is what they did to you, conform to God instead and model Him, so that the heart of your children will turn to you and to God also.
Malachi 4:7 and Luke 1:17 – “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
